The side lamps lit the room, the warm glow of the bedside lamp casting soft shadows on the bedroom walls. Leonardo opened the door quietly, not wanting to wake Elena—only to find her sitting up in bed, a book in her hands. Her eyes were fixed on the pages, but the way she absently traced the book with her thumb told him she wasn’t really reading.
