30. The mate bond

Chloe “Chloe,” Adrian said. I opened my eyes and blinked, blinded by the bright sunlight in the garden. We’d been back at the manor for several hours, and I’d yet to run into Adrian after he’d interrupted my appointment with the healer. That was okay. I couldn’t completely dispel the unfortunate idea that maybe he’d been my mate in the forest. It was absurd. I hadn’t stopped trying to call upon my wolf, though. I’d spent the last hour out here trying to get my wolf to show herself again. She’d refused. I was trying not to get down, but the lack of progress was really starting to get to me. “Hi, Adrian,” I sighed, rubbing at my eyes. He sat down on the bench next to me, surprising me. I turned to him with an eyebrow raised. “Have you been given the all-clear by Healer Angela?” Adrian
