22. Cheating on

It is so sweet that Laius, Cali, and Lea organized such a party for Liv. And Laius made sure that wine is flowing in abundance. I am sat next to Sienna and her mate, Lysander, they are a lovely couple. He always makes her smile, and their fingers are enlaced in a very tender way. I can see how their eyes twinkle when they look at each other. 

They told me they are together for a bit more than 30 years, more or less the same time I am not truly together with my absent mate. My heart clenches when I think that I’ve never seen his eyes, I’ve never seen his face light up and his eyes shine for me and probably I won’t ever. I took a sip of wine to soothe my heart. 

It would be nice to be able to go to places with my mate, do normal, daily life things with him. But I can’t even have those simple pleasures. Gulp by gulp fairy wine consoles me and makes me feel warmer. 

In one month, Lea will leave to be with her mates, and I will feel as lonely and desperate, as I used to feel before Liv was born, I didn’t want to feel like that ever again. The pieces of a broken heart that I kept together with a fragile tape seem to fall apart all over again. More wine. 

Maybe I am only pathetic, I am a ‘grown-ass woman’ as Liv would say; I shouldn’t feel that alone or that afraid to be alone. But I have a not fully completed mate bond and mate pull to torture me. Thus, more wine in. 

I just want to forget about it for a moment, just for tonight, I don’t want to think about it. 

“Princess Melinda, I don’t want to be rude, but are you sure you didn’t have enough wine?” Sienna’s candied voice asks. 

I smile at her, I don’t think she could be rude even if she tried, “You are not being rude. But I am fine. I won’t get drunk that easily and I feel that I really need this wine tonight.” I say, as a wrap my hand on my glass, almost in a caress, in a possessive way. I am indeed pathetic. 

That is what having a half-broken heart for as long as you can remember does to you. Wine in and a clean mind, no thoughts, no memories, no worries, only Red Fairy Wine. 

Sienna flashes me a look of sympathy. I’ve seen her many times in my mate’s household in the last years. I don’t know what their relationship is or why she ended up befriending or working for a wizard, but I am fully aware that she knows about my coupling situation.

Liv

I am walking to the palace with Laius, I am ready to get home, this baby needs a nap and by this baby, I mean myself, when we hear someone whimpering. We pass by a tree and I am quite shocked to see my mom sitting on the floor against said tree, hugging her legs as her face is buried on the top of her knees and looking like a lost and confused girl. 

She was crying and sobbing big time. I sit down by her side as Laius tries to help me to do it. My mates are so overwhelming, I still can sit down by myself. I take her hand in mine, getting her attention. Apparently, she just noticed our presence now. I didn’t even need to ask what happened; she immediately gave me the headlines.

“I cheated on my mate, I-I’m a horrible person!” my mom cries and sobs hard. 

Goddess, I’ve never seen her hysterical side before. Normally she is calm and sweet, a real lady, but now she is a dishevelled mess. 

“Mom, please calm down and tell me what happened,” I ask softly, brushing some wisps of hair from her crying face. She is crying so much that her whole face is red, her eyes are puffy, and her lips are trembling. 

“I…I had too much wine and that man… he was irresistible, he is so gorgeous, yummy like you would say…. I just… when I realized it, I was kissing him and I was all over him, he was all over me. We were all over entangled…” she says in a confused way and a crying-drunk voice. 

Laius is trying to hold back his chuckle and I give him a pointed look. “Sorry, Sweets. I didn’t mean to laugh...There are some very good pills for hangover in Hell; I will get some, she surely will need them tomorrow.” He says using our bond, I nod, and he portals away. That is good, my mom and I could use some privacy. 

“Mom, did you have s*x with him?” I ask not sure if I want to know the answer, but here we go. 

“I-I… don’t think so… probably not… did I?” She looks at me beyond confused. I sigh and look up, that is when I see Lea coming in our direction with Valentin.

“What happened?” Lea asks worriedly. 

I think she is also very shocked to see mom like this. When you see one of your parents drunk and you are the sober one it means you grew up, right? Well, Lea and I are having this realisation moment. 

“Mom is…” I try to say, but mom is faster than me.

“I cheated on my mate.” She says crying harder.

“Oh, no!” Lea’s doe eyes grow even bigger and she brings her hand to her mouth. She sits down by mom’s other side and squeezes her hand. 

“She had much more Fairy Wine than she ever should.” I try to explain.

“With whom did you cheated on dad?” Lea asks, hearing these words made mom cry even more desperately. 

“Lea, not helping,” I whisper, hugging mom.

“Sorry.” She mouths.

“I think I should leave the 3 of you… tell me if there is anything I can do, Angel” Valentin says and Lea nods to him. He kisses the top of Lea’s head and leaves. 

“I don’t know…. how I’ll be able to …. Sleep at night anymore…. I’m a cheater! I’m so nasty, I’m repulsive….” She mutters as she covers her face with her shaking hands. 

“You’re not! You just… maybe it isn’t so bad…. I mean…” Lea stutters, she didn’t know what to say. Well, me neither. 

“Mom, who did you make out with?” I try to ask again.

“That very yu-yummy man…” she answers sobbing. 

If it would be any other time, I would laugh my butt off at hearing my mom using the word ‘yummy.’

“Okay…does Mr. Yummy has a name?” I ask tentatively. 

“He does….and it’s beautiful. I-I didn’t want to…but I am so lonely, and he is so gorgeous, now Lea will leave soon too…. I will be alone… and I am so tired of everything and then I saw that yummy man, and when I …. Realised we were all over each other.” Mom trails off. 

I can see Lea blushing furiously. I hug my mom tighter, as much as my bump allows me to.

“I am so sorry. I can’t even imagine how you are feeling. You know you are always welcome at my place and soon you will have this little one to play with.” I say caressing my swollen stomach, she looks at me and gives me a sad smile as she strokes my belly as well. 

“Mom, what is his name? Who was him? There weren’t many males around today, so it won’t be hard to figure it out.” Lea says with a contemplative look. 

“It was…. It was the hot Elf…Maximus.” She trails off. 

I am so shocked and I could see Lea’s face getting paler as she gasps. 

“Crap…” I mutter under my breath. 

That is not what I expected when I am expecting. 

My mom just cheated on my father with my father and we can’t tell her that. First the were-d**k and now this, that was a memorable party, that is for sure.
