I was dreaming.
I opened my eyes to a very dark forest, but I could see, thanks to my heightened senses. The forest was so dark and quiet, except for the weeping sounds I kept hearing. I looked around, trying to find who the voice belonged to, when I saw a young boy of about four years old sitting by an enormous oak tree with his back pinned against its trunk.
Thick, tall trees crowded around, creating an eerie, uncomfortable feeling. It was the type my mother called a haunted forest when she told me a story. Although darkness seemed to be the only thing around, I let my eyes get used to it and see through its massive wave of discomfort.
I kept my gaze fixed on him, as he kept crying and shaking. Suddenly, an even darker smoke filled the surrounding area, completely engulfing the little boy as his screams filled the air.
I shivered, feeling as though the smoke was burning me. The burning sensation was so hot that I screamed.
Soon, though, a small pup emerged from the smoke and ran, the smoke trailing behind him as I ran after them as well. At that moment, I became aware of the fact that the young boy had just shifted. Which was quite impossible.
I came to a stop before a large clearing, the sound of swishing water welcomed by my ears. The young pup stood by the edge of the cliff I had just noticed, taking in deep breaths.
I did the same, waiting to see what happens next.
The smoke stood still as well, but after a few moments, it crashed into the pup. The pup turned and fell off the cliff. And so did I, embracing a darkness that seemed to be worse than the one I had seen when I first found myself here.
Silence.
More silence.
And then there came the faint whisper of sounds I could not yet discern.
Blinking my eyes open to find myself in a strange surrounding, with loud blaring sounds filling my ears. I looked around, taking in the surroundings.
It was strange, one I had never seen. I saw carriage-like objects moving around. And then I saw humans.
Humans?
What was going on? How did I get here? Humans were extinct, and that was what we'd always known. But how, in the Goddess' name, was it possible to find myself in a place filled with so many humans?
Before I could ponder more on the thought, I heard a small whine beside me, and turned to see the young pup I had followed. However, the smoke was not here anymore, and the pup was shivering from being wet.
"You little Doggie," a kind voice said, and I looked up to see a woman. However, it seemed as though the pup was the only thing she could see and I was invisible.
Weird.
"Come here. How did you get drenched in water when the sun is this hot? Come, let me take a look at you." Although I could hear her and see her silhouette, I couldn't entirely make out what she looked like.
She picked up the puppy and began walking away, unaware that it was a wolf pup and not a dog, as she called it.
I woke up at that instant, the pounding in my head increasing even more. I realized then that I had just had the weirdest dream ever. And one, I couldn't make out what it truly meant.
I was so confused at that moment.
