Chapter 24: Milk

Today was just awesome. I really like how lucky I am. Nick and I are inside my room. I didn’t tell Nick to sleep in my room but he just directly went to my room and jumped on my bed. I think he is mad, not tired. I get depressed knowing that he and I will be sleeping in the same room. “Hey.” I said to Nick as I shook him on the bed. Of course, I did that to get his attention. “Stop it Michael, I am not in the mood to play with you.” Nick said in a serious voice but without turning to look at me. That was my first and last try. 

Nick sounds so serious that  he even frightens me. Normally, when Nick was mad he would hurt me or shout or be sarcastic. But now he is calm. Some people would think that his case is still okay but for me it isn’t. This is not normal to me, that’s why I am frightened of him. 

I stopped teasing him and gently positioned myself to sleep next to him. “Good night.” I said softly. I waited for his reply but he didn’t so I just turned myself on the other side so I won’t face him and closed my eyes. Let’s just sleep, Nick will be okay tomorrow, I hope so because if not I will surely have a hard time on this one. I felt how tired my body was and started to slowly fall asleep. 

(MORNING) 

“Ouch!” I exclaimed when I fell on the floor. “You deserve it.” Nick said in an annoyed voice. “What did I do again?” I asked Nick. The reason why I fell on the floor was because Nick kicked me in my sleep. “I was not able to sleep well with you. Your feet were on my stomach. How am I supposed to sleep well when I can’t breathe properly?” Nick shouted at me. Wow! His voice is high pitched. I think at this rate he can be a soprano singer. “I didn’t know. I am sorry.” I said to Nick. “Whatever! Let’s go  downstairs. It is already 8 am and that is late. I think you slept for like 11 hours in total so better go downstairs already.” Nick said to me. He is bossing me around now. But I am okay with it, at least he is not sulking at me about yesterday. Nick being noisy when mad or annoyed is okay for me rather than him not saying anything. He is so scary, I thought yesterday that he is like a Lion staying quiet but is waiting to devour you when his time comes. Gosh! I’m having goosebumps.

“Hey! Why aren’t you moving.” Nick shouted at me. I looked at my body that was still on the floor. I stood up. As soon as Nick saw me standing up. He started to walk directly to the door to go downstairs. I just followed him like a pet. 

“Hello boys Good morning! How’s your sleep?” Janice said as soon as we went inside the table to eat. Janice seems like a different person now. I think that she might be very happy about yesterday. “I had a great sleep.” I replied to Janice. “How about you Nick?” Janice went to where Nick is seated and asked him closely. 

Nick is actually seated right next to me. So I was a little surprised by what Janice said. Since when did they become this close to each other? “I only had 5 hours of sleep.” Nick answered indirectly to Janice’s question. “What?! But why is that…” Janice was not able to finish what she wanted to ask because I interrupted her. “Janice, we would like to eat now. And I am really hungry now too because I was not able to eat a lot yesterday.” I said to Janice. 

I changed the topic so that Nick won’t be mad at me more. I know that if we talk about it, it will only spark a problem. So I believe that it is better to do something to change the topic so the environment won’t be heated. “Oh I almost forgot about it. Where’s my manners? I am really sorry.” Janice said. s**t! Now I feel guilty. “No it is okay. You don’t have to say sorry.” I said to Janice. “Wait for some minutes because I will ask Maria and Leonora to prepare your breakfast.” Janice said and then left the table to go to the kitchen. 

After Janice left the table, the atmosphere became so quiet that you could even hear the flies. No, I am just kidding. That is just so impossible to happen. I turned to look at Nick but he is just busy closing his eyes. I think he is napping. I don’t know why I did that to Nick while sleeping. I usually don’t move whenever I sleep but when I am together with Nick I often move a lot. 

Janice came after 5 minutes with food on her hand and after her were Maria who was holding the plates and utensils to use and Leonora who was holding the drinks for us. They put what they were all holding on the table. “ Thank you!” I said while looking at all of them. They all gave me a sweet smile as a sign of welcome. “Thanks!” Nick said shortly. After that, they all left the table. “Let’s eat!” I said with a lot of energy to lighten the atmosphere. I was hoping that it would be okay with Nick but it seems like he didn’t hear me at all. Because of this, I started to eat the food on my plate. Today we are having eggs, meat, bananas and milk for breakfast. 

Actually, every morning we always have eggs to eat. Sometimes boiled, sometimes not. So it just really depends. Besides, I am not picky when it comes to healthy foods and gladly Nick isn’t too. But when I was younger I really struggled a lot because mom forced me to eat eggs everyday and then drink milk. I didn’t like milk in the past but because I did not have a choice, I decided to control and immune myself from eating this food and drinking milk. 

Milk wasn't my type in the past because milk tasted so disgusting for me but as time passed I was able to like it wholly. Milk is amazingly good for the body though, so I am really happy about mom's nagging whenever I do not drink milk everyday. 

It just came to my mind, I have never heard any bad feedback coming from Nick about the foods here in the house. I turned to look at him. “Eat, don’t look.” Nick said without looking at me. “Hehe.” I replied. “That was embarrassing.” I said to myself and continued eating the food.

I wonder if Nick likes the food here or maybe he is just the kind of person who is thankful for everything. Nick is such a nice person. I never heard him complain about things like this. He just complains about my attitude towards him. I hope everyone is like Nick, who is just grateful about everything except his dislike of my annoying attitude of course. 

I finished eating my food and started to drink the milk. This milk is really good but it is just that it has a bad smell for beginners. If you continue to drink this, the smell will no longer affect your nose. 

Mom and dad order fresh milk from cows to their friend, which is my friend's mom. It is John’s family. John’s mom is really fond of farm animals and plants so her mom invested in something like this. John told me that his mom told him that it was at first only a hobby but his dad told his mom to make it a business and now they have this business. They have plantations and all kinds of animals that are being distributed locally and internationally. After that they invested in a factory so that they can make fresh milk. Yes, their product, the fresh milk is kinda pricey but it is really worth it. Because it is not for commercials like other companies make. They would tell lies about their products not having any additives but the fact is there actually are. Besides, many people still buy their fresh milks because of its quality. 

They also have a lot of vegetable and fruit plants. They are all good too but I have my favorite. I really like their  apples. They all have a balanced sweetness. It is like all their apples taste the same, that's why I like it. 

“Boys, the people that your parents called to fix your rooms are here.” Janice said. “Oh, by the way, where are mom and dad?” I asked Janice. “It is 8 am so maybe they have work to do and left.” Nick said in a sarcastic way. This guy just never fails when to say something. “I see. I forgot. Thanks!” I said to Nick while facing him. 

After saying that to Nick I stood up to see the people. I went to the living room where the workers were and introduced myself. “Hi. Please take care of our rooms.” I said to the workers and they gave me a smile. “We will.” The other guy said. I was actually just kidding and wanted to have a good atmosphere with them. “If you need something, feel free to tell us. We would love to do so.” Janice said.  

I saw Nick on the other side of my eye who just got here in the living room. I turned to clearly see him. He only has his poker face on. “Nick, you will be sleeping in my room now and forever.” I said to Nick loudly. Enough for him to hear. He just looked at me with an emotionless face. 

“We will go to the place where we are going to fix it so we can finish it today.” The other worker said. Well, I think they can finish it in a day though because all they have to do is to change the connection between the two rooms so that it will be bigger. That’s what I heard from mom and dad. Because if we transfer the things and then we need to go to each other just to get things it is really chaotic so they decided to connect the two rooms into one. “Yes, I will lead you there. Oh Michael, your new bed will arrive this morning so when someone calls, answer it okay?” Janice said and went upstairs to lead the workers. I think that they will call the family’s telephone number so I should stay here in the living room then. Because there are only two telephones inside this house. In the kitchen and in the living room. 

I sat on the sofa inside the living room and miraculously, Nick followed me in the living room and also seated on the sofa. I looked at him, he was still emotionless. “Hey!” I said to Nick and made a funny face. After Nick saw my face, he laughed so hard. 

I see Nick can laugh then so I just need to make a face. This is really cool because I can use this whenever he is mad at me. However I have a disadvantage, I might look really awful so he might have a good time? Why do I have to suffer? 

“Michael, I want to watch EXO performances on the TV screen.” Nick said to me as he was walking to where I am. Nick then sat right next to me and turned on the TV and searched for an EXO video on YouTube. He chose the live concert of them singing Wolf. EXO started singing. I personally like listening to their live performances because it just proves how good they are in person. Whenever I see them live, I just feel so proud being a fan. 

The live concert that we are watching is the video where they are still complete, somehow this makes me sad. 

They all ended the song really well. “They are just amazing.” I heard Nick say as soon as their performance ended.
