Chapter 7 Suddenly, everyone wanted to be my friend. I mean with Marco they would say hi and greet me but after lunch everybody was trailing after me like I was the new star. Everyone knew my name. Even pack members knew me. It was completely out of this world. People I didn't even know wanted to have lunch with me and go shopping with me. It was only when Samantha came and flipped everyone off did they leave me alone. "Ignore them." She tells me as she inspects her perfectly manicured nails. I flush at this. Samantha was probably the most beautiful girl in school not to mention the highest ranking female here. She was in a whole new level and she was talking to me. "Thank you." I manage to tell her as she casually stands in front of me. Samantha looks up a little startled at my meek voice. "Hey, loosen up. I'm your friend." She reassures giving me a soft smile. It was around this time when Jamie joins us. "I broke a nail." She groans looking horrified. I'm again starstruck that another member of the Golden Team has come and spoke to me- well rather to no one in particular. Jamie looks up and sees me giving me a dazzling smile. "Avery! Hey! I enjoyed lunch. You should always come eat with us." I smile and nod not knowing what I was doing. "Kids are harassing her." Samantha tells her while she typed on her phone. Jamie laughs at this eyeing Samantha. "Did you tell them off?" "Flipped them off actually." Sam corrects a small smile appearing at the side of her face. Jamie laughs even harder grabbing hold of my arm for support. "Even better, Sam." "My cousin Cassandra is being a dick." Sam continues basically hammering her thumbs down her iPhone probably replying to Cassandra. Cassandra Harries. I've heard of her. She's the daughter of Castiel Harries. Sam's mom, Savannah Harries' older brother. "She still planting corn?" Jamie teased her bright green eyes lightening up at the topic. Samantha made a bored sound. Duh or something like that. "We should probably go visit her and eat her cows or something." "Did I hear someone mention cows?" I turned and found myself face to face with Jeremy Clark. Again I found myself flushing. "Get outta her face, Jer." Jamie scolded her brother as she pushed him away. "Bane's gonna lose it if he sees you doing that to her." Jeremy shrugs his shoulders and wraps an arm around me. "On special occasions," He drawled ignoring Jamie making both girls roll their eyes. "We eat live cows at a farm." Samantha smirks at this evilly. "My cousin if you haven't noticed is a b***h. So we take a few things from her here and there." Jamie jumps to my side happily. "Cassandra hates us. She hates that she isn't in the pack." Jeremy grins widely at this. "You should join us. Cow eating is a delicacy." "Won't she tell on you?" I ask not believing that they could just easily eat their cousins livelihood. Samantha bursts out laughing as she clapped her hands together. "My mom encourages this. In fact all our parents do." Suddenly, Bane and Kaden appear. They both had a blank emotionless look in their faces as they made their way towards us. "Avery," Bane greeted his expression softening a little but stiffening again when he sees the Jeremy's arm on my shoulder. Kaden gave me a small nod of his head acknowledging me. "Hello," He says. Jeremy peels himself off me and smiles at the two. "Bane, Kaden, how's about we visit our girl, Cassandra." Kaden made a face. "Cassandra," He repeated like the name was so vile. "No body likes Cassandra." Bane explains coming to stand beside me. "Too uptight. She's basically a farm animal for crying out loud." Jamie mocked. "Herds sheep in her wolf form." Adds Kaden with a shake of his head. Bane chuckles at his friends banter with the girl. The Golden Team seemed more normal when they act like this. When I first saw them enter the school I kinda wanted to get swallowed by the ground but now it's like I could really be friends with them. It's all thanks to Bane. - "Avery," Marco sighed angrily as he drove us home. He wasn't happy at all. He didn't approve of my new friendship with the Golden Team. He gave me a sideward glance. "I don't know how I'm gonna talk you out of this." "They aren't actually hurting me. There isn't any harm done." I whisper looking down at my hands. Marco sighs again but gives me a small smile. "I might as well meet them if my best friend is gonna be spending time with them like this." My eyes bulged out of their sockets. "Would you really?" "Yeah, babe. Why not?" He says arriving at our house. - "How's the hangover?" Marco asks me as he cooks dinner. It smelled like pasta. Yum. I love pasta. "Better." I grumbled remembering the horrible feeling from earlier. "Set up the movie, babe." He instructed moving around the kitchen expertly. It's a weird sight for many to see him like this. Big and bulky Marco cooking dinner. To me though, this is normal. This is Marco. I stood from the couch and shuffled towards the stack of DVDs we kept near the TV. "Horror or romance?" I yelled even though I didn't need to knowing, Marco would be able to hear me even if I whispered. I heard a series of banging and clatters coming from the kitchen. "Horror!" He shouted back sounding gruff like he just wrestled a refrigerator. He probably did. I didn't particularly like horror. I would scream and panic even though I have my eyes closed the entire time but it's Marco's turn to choose the movie tonight. Living as a rogue isolates people like us. We didn't have a family because parents don't live long enough to watch us grow up. Wolves naturally need to be in packs. Even though I'm unshifted I know the familiar hallow feeling at the back of my mind. The urge to look for one. The urge to find my place somewhere. The urge to belong. I always say this but I'm glad I have Marco and Old John. If I didn't I wouldn't even be able to make it past twelve years old. That's if I'm lucky. Marco and I do almost everything together. It lessens the hollowness of being alone and the blood lust that consumes rogues. You see, being in a pack keeps werewolves in check. They're able to control their wolves because of their Alpha. Rogues, don't have an Alpha. We depend purely in luck and hope that the full moon won't corrupt us. I've seen it happen once. It's happened with Marco a long time ago. We were out trying to get him exhausted for the upcoming full moon. It was like that. Rogues have to tire themselves so that when the full moon comes their body would be too tired to act on it. Marco was doing his rounds and lost track of time when it hit him. The blood lust. The need to kill and look for someone to stop him from doing it. He turned wild and feral. Marco had a soulless look in his eyes like he was more wolf than man. He killed two other rogues that night and only stopped when Old John was forced to break his legs so he couldn't move anymore. That's why we live so far from the other people. Back to reality. Finally deciding on the Asian version of Shutter, I put it in the player. The TV had just finished booting up when Marco arrives with two bowls of a delicious smelling pasta. "You're gonna scream so much." He teased sitting down beside me. Earlier, I laid out a few blankets on the floor and pillows to keep us comfy. "Please, this is me were talking about." "Oh yeah, I forgot. You'll probably faint at the sight of the title." He said calmly digging into his bowl of goodness. I shoot him a glare which Marco ignored. Come on. I can't be the only one terrified of horror movies but still end up watching it. Like for that movie called The Conjuring. The trailer alone scared me so much I slept beside Old John. Let me tell you. He wasn't so pleased by my constant groping. I just realized that I grope a lot of people. Moon Goddess that one is on you completely. I probably fainted six times during the movie with Marco constantly battling the sleepiness. He's crazy. The scary rotten looking lady just screamed at us and he managed to fall asleep! Goddess, honestly. By the time the movie was over Marco had completely fallen asleep. I shook the guy several times and even tried to pour melted ice on his neck. Giving up, I maneuvered his body around the floor and managed to let him lay down properly. I guess we were sleeping in the living room. I didn't mind much since that rotten lady's terrible face is like embossed in my brain. I lay there beside Marco thinking of how weird it was that suddenly my life has changed so much. Was Bane Cohen my mate? Could it be possible? Just Bane's name gave me shivers. He was so intimidating and caring at the same time. I gave up trying to sleep when the clock hit 1:30am. With a surprising courage I left Marco at the living room and stepped out the back yard. I closed my eyes and took in the cold relaxing night air. The woods smelled amazing. I loved the smell of it so much. Some part of me knew what was about to happen next. Usually, I'm not surprised anymore. Yellow eyes presence always comes when I'm alone. What surprised me the most that night was that when I opened my eyes and faced the darker part of the woods I expected to see nothing. Instead, I was met with those bright yellow eyes that I never thought I would see again. It was alluring. I felt hypnotized by those big golden eyes. I didn't realize until I was at the edge of the forest that I was moving towards the eyes. I could almost see a figure and I was determined to come closer. My body was on autopilot. I was almost consumed by darkness when I heard Bane's urgent voice. "Avery,"
