Chapter Three

2539 Words
I stretched out my arms, feeling completely and utterly exhausted. Being alone did have its perks, though, like walking around my place naked without interruption. Truth be told, I’d probably do that regardless of who I was living with. “Cut it out, Soren,” I heard a small voice come from the other side of my bed. The thing was that I didn’t remember bringing anyone back here. When Alana got in that cab, I went back inside the club and ordered drink after drink. The last thing that I remembered was dancing with a woman, but that was pretty much it. I lifted the covers and peeked at the other naked body underneath besides my own. Whoever she was, knew how to take care of her body. I could have done worse. The downside to drinking too much was that I didn’t remember who I had slept with. Damn, I really have to stop doing that. “Um, hi.” What a dumbass thing to say. Good going, Soren! I couldn’t even remember her name. She lifted her head from underneath the covers and climbed on top of me, surprising the hell out of me, but in the best way possible. “It’s Carol. Don’t even worry about it. You can make it up to me right now.” Carol had blonde hair and these attractive brown eyes., not to mention that she had a body that I was couldn't stop staring at. A wicked smile crossed her lips as she disappeared under the covers. A second later, I felt her tongue flick across the tip of my dick, right before she pressed her mouth over me and took me at full length into the back of her throat. Maybe I couldn’t remember last night all that well, but I would remember this right now. Everything in my body told me to stop her, which was a strange feeling for me. Alana’s beautiful face flashed in my mind just for a second. Instead of pulling this girl off me, I did the unspeakable. I pretended like she was Alana and instantly became hard as a rock inside Carol’s mouth. I pushed the covers off us and picked her up, throwing her back onto the bed. She tried to kiss me, but I moved just in time to get a condom from my nightstand. She watched me place it on, licking her lips with anticipation. “I didn’t realize how big you were last night. That must have been all the alcohol we drank. It makes sense considering how sore I am.” Shut up was the only thing I wanted to say to her. She was about to ruin this moment, and I needed to feel something, anything than the pain in my chest. A sudden knock on my door made us both turn to it in surprise. “Carol! Are you in there? Jackie called me and told me where you were. If you do this, you will be making a mistake! You are getting married in two weeks!” I looked back down at the naked woman underneath me and squinted my eyes. All she did was shrug. “Don’t judge me. I wanted one more fling before I tie the knot.” “I could care less if your getting married or not. Right now, the only thing that matters is that you are in my bed.” She giggled as I kissed her neck and moaned when I pushed my hard dick inside of her. ** “Wow, Soren. Just when I thought you couldn’t get any lower, man. You slept with an engaged woman?” Sometimes Joel sounded just like a woman. He has been hanging around one for too long. I shrugged, feeling Eve’s heated gaze on me. “So, what? It wasn’t like she was my girl getting ready to marry me. It was on her bucket list to sleep with another guy before getting married. Who was I to deny of her of that pleasure?” “Dude, her friend was outside the door banging on it the entire time you were screwing this poor girl. Do you have any idea the sort of guilt she will have to live with knowing that she cheated on her fiancé before their big day?” It was a wonder how he found himself a great woman like Eve. “Stop acting like my mom or something. She was a grown woman, old enough to make her own choices. I didn’t force her into having sex with me.” Eve walked over and threw the plate of breakfast down in front of me. Yeah, she was pissed. I didn’t like Eve being mad at me. She knew who I was, how I was, so I wasn’t entirely sure why this was such a big deal. All my friends knew that I was more of the one-night stand sort of guy rather than finding me in some relationship. That just wasn’t me for so many reasons. To see the look on Eve’s face, though, made me instantly regret what I did. I grabbed her wrist when she walked by me again. “Can we talk?” It was obvious that she didn’t want to, but she nodded her head anyway. We walked into the next room, leaving the door cracked. We have had talks like this before, but Joel never seemed to mind. Thankfully. “What do you want to talk about?” She asked, crossing her arms over her chest. “Why are you so pissed at me? You are the last person that I want to be giving me the cold shoulder.” Eve started to pace back and forth in the room before saying anything. “I’m pissed at you because all you ever do is brag about your conquest. I’m pissed at you because all you ever do is let everyone see this side of you that I’ve grown to hate. Soren, you are so much better than the guy you pretend to be. I mean, you slept with someone that is supposed to get married. How is that anything to brag about to your friends? How would you feel if Joel did that to me?” I didn’t even have to think about it. “I would fucking kill him.” “That is my point exactly. You can’t just pick and choose like that. Wrong is wrong, no matter how you look at it. I’ve stuck by you this past year because I knew how lonely you were. I know that you don’t let everyone see the soft side of you because you are only afraid of getting hurt but doing stuff like this isn’t the answer either. Whatever happened to that cute woman that I picked out in the club for you last night?” Alana. I closed my eyes, remembering the scent of her sweet perfume. That smell alone made me crave her in a way I’ve never craved anything in my life. What was happening to me? Was I going crazy because that is exactly what it felt like? “Her name was Alana, and trust me when I say that she wasn’t interested. It wasn’t for lack of trying on my part.” Eve gasped and clasped her hand over her mouth. “You liked her. You actually liked her, and I’m not just talking about liking her enough to bring her back to your place. This is great!” “How the hell is this good news, Eve? She wanted absolutely nothing to do with me. I’ll probably never see her again anyway, and I don’t care about getting romantically involved with someone. I wanted sex last night, and I got it. There is no need to push this anymore.” As I tried to get out of the door, Eve slammed her hand against it, forcing me to stay put. “No, Soren. Sorry, but you aren’t getting off that easy. I know you better than that, and you know it’s true. I can see it in your eyes.” She guided me over to the bed to sit down with her. Eve crossed her legs, looking excited as hell. “Tell me about her. You had to get more information from her than just her name.” I shrugged. “She mentioned that she was some shrink here in L.A, but nothing other than that. What does it matter?” I almost yelled before catching myself. Now it was my turn to pace. I stood up and started back and forth in front of Eve but couldn’t stop my feet from moving. “Trust me when I say that it’s better if I never see her again. A woman like that doesn’t need to be corrupted by someone like me.” Eve’s excitement immediately dialed down. I could swear that she almost looked sorry for me. It was an expression that I was used to seeing from people all around me, though I thought I would never see it from her. “Is that what you think? You think all you do is corrupt women?” “Jasmine, a girl that I did things with one night, came by my house yesterday before we went out. She told me one thing that I already knew, but no woman had ever said it out loud in front of me before. She said that I’m not the dating type. Women look at me for sex, and that’s it. When I ask a woman to come home with me or seem interested in her at all, they immediately think that I only want one thing from them.” I started intertwining my fingers to occupy myself with what I was about to say. “I’ve never told anyone this before, but it wasn’t always like that for me. When someone goes through something tragic, it sort of changes your point of view on things. My tragic event changed my mind on dating.” Eve wasn’t an emotional type of woman, not really. I suppose that is why we got along so well, but she looked like she wanted to cry right now. “Do you want to talk about it?” I shook my head. “No. I’m just saying that everyone is so quick to judge me for what they see. It’s cool. I’ve made everyone see me like this, so why not go with it? Jasmine was right to say what she did. I’m not the sort of guy that you take home to your parents or who goes out on dates to please his woman. I’m better off alone. Always have been and always will be.” I ran my hand through my thick hair, messing it up a little. “You know what? I got to go. I’ll catch up with you guys later.” Before Eve could stop me, I was running out the door. Joel tried to stop me, but I flipped him off and continued to run. When I got a few blocks away from their place, I slowed down. I wasn’t even a little out of breath. Maybe I should run more. Yeah, that’s what I will do. I don’t want to bring up the past. I’ve made so much progress, even if no one knew that. I’d rather let everyone keep believing I’m the player of the group. To be fair, I pretty much was at this point. There was no more pretending. I turned into the guy I said I would be, and I’ll be damned if I let the image of one woman that I couldn’t seem to stop thinking about ruin that. I’ll go out again tonight. I didn’t want to go to the club again because I had no interest in picking up another woman to keep me warm, but there was something that I loved to do more than having sex. A few hours later, I walked into the pool hall about two blocks away from my place. None of my friends knew that I came here on a regular. I’ve never once invited any of them to come out with me, mostly because I didn’t want them to see the side of me that wasn’t trying to hook up with someone. My favorite bartender smiled at me as soon as I walked in. She was about ten years older than me but was cool as hell. “Hey, Sally. How is the competition tonight? Do you think that I have a chance?” “Soren, you know that none of these guys could beat you on that table, regardless of how much they practiced. There is a new face in here tonight. She seems to be giving the guys a run for their money, but my money is on you as always. What are you drinking tonight?” I held up my hand. “Not drinking tonight. I did enough of that last night.” I tried peeking my head over at the tables to see who this new pool shark was, hustling everyone, but couldn’t see over all the heads. “You said that you have never seen her before?” “Nope, but if you want a shot, I would take it now. She has been at it for a few hours now. Since she is on a winning streak, I doubt that she will be playing much longer.” Alright. I’m good with that. It didn’t matter how good this woman was. I was better. I made my way across the crowded pool hall and over to the tables. When I finally broke through all the men hollering and whistling, my eyes nearly popped out of my head. There she was bent over the table in a black skirt with fishnet stockings on and a halter top that showed her mid-section off to match. Holy shit. She was perfection. I’m not sure why, but she looked in my direction and smiled when she saw me. “Well, what a coincidence it is seeing you here of all places. Are you stalking me now or something?” I carefully stalked around the pool table until I stood behind her as she got ready to take her shot. “I had no idea that you would be here, but since you are, how about you play me in a game?” “There are plenty of other men that were here before you. I’m sure they would mind.” “Okay,” I said, smiling. I pulled back from her and turned to face the crowd of men. “Anyone in here care if I play next?” “Hell no! Get her son!” One of the regulars in the back yelled, throwing his fist in the air and spilling some of his beer. Everyone else in the bar followed right after him. I leaned in again and whispered into her ear. “See? No one minds. If you are scared, I will completely understand.” Alana flipped around, standing much too close to me. “Oh, you are on. Go ahead and rack them.”
