SOPHIA’S POV
“I don’t want any visitors,” I said to the nurse on duty. “I’m not in the right headspace for that right now.”
She hesitated. “I understand ma’am. But they seem to be important people. One of them claims to be your Director.”
Cassia.
“Fine. Let them in but stand by in case they bug me too much,” I said.
She smiled and walked out of the room.
When the door opened again Cassia and Amber-Leigh walked in. I almost rolled my eyes.
Of all people.
Of all days.
Cassia sat on the couch, concern etched on her face. Amber-Leigh trailed slightly behind her, wearing her usual expression of fake concern mixed with barely hidden curiosity.
Her eyes swept over me in the bed, the IV in my arm, the monitor beside me, and then she clasped her hands dramatically.
