JACE’S POV
I was relieved to get a call from Mrs Ashford claiming they found Beverly alive and well in a dilapidated apartment on the other side of town.
I was supposed to meet Sophia at the hospital so I refused to go see Beverly.
Mum wasn’t having it. “Go see Beverly. She’s been missing for over a week now, Jace.”
“But Sophia isn’t feeling well,” I said, adjusting my suit. “I have to go see her.”
She sighed. “She’s having a fever or something. It’s not as important as Beverly’s situation.”
“I’m sorry, mum. My wife comes first,” I said.
“Fine,” Mum sighed again. “I’ll go see Sophia on your behalf and I promise to be on good behavior just for today. So go see your best friend. She’s fragile right now and your company hasn’t been doing well with the bad press lately.”
