“Hello?” I said, my voice low as I pressed the phone to my ear.
“Sophia,” Valerie breathed, “thank God you called. Are you alone?”
I frowned. “Yeah. What’s going on?”
She hesitated. “Look, I’m sorry for what I said yesterday. We want you to come in today, please.”
My stomach tightened. “Why? I’d rather skip the embarrassment this time.”
“I can’t really say much, but please, we… I want you back.”
I had no idea if this was a plan to embarrass me. What if she planned something with those bullies?
