Kyle connected his phone to the big screen before calling Beverly. He called her three times but she didn’t pick up.
I shifted in the ropes. “Kyle, listen to me. She’s gone too far already but you haven’t.”
He didn’t turn to me. “Then let me rot in jail in her place.”
“She’s not worth it,” I said.
He finally turned. “Don’t you dare say that again. She is worth everything. After our father left our mother was a mess who got drunk every second. It was just us. People like you and our parents may think we aren’t worth it but we are.”
