SOPHIA’S POV I gasped as I slipped but Silas’s arm caught me before I could hit the floor. My hands tightened on his shoulders and he just stared at me. His grip was firm and steady and I could feel the strength in his arms. I tried to pull away but he didn’t let go. His eyes searched mine and something unspoken passed between us. I swallowed hard and finally whispered, “Thank you.” He nodded but didn’t release me. The air felt charged and I realized just how close we were. Then I felt another presence behind us and my heart skipped. I turned slightly and saw Jace. His jaw was tight and his eyes darkened. He didn’t move but the silence between us was heavy, almost suffocating. I let go of Silas slowly but my gaze never left Jace’s. He took a step closer and the tension spiked again
