Tonight was perfect.
I smiled to myself as I did my bedtime skincare routine. Ruby turned out to be a pro and it made my work easier.
But I knew I still had work to do. After I found out Davis tried to kill me I avoided seeing him or even hearing about him.
The rage built up inside of me wasn’t nearly spent. I had more left to use.
The door opened and Jace walked in, his face unreadable.
The air shifted instantly. My smile faltered as I set the serum back on the dresser. Jace didn’t say a word, he just stood there with that dark, measured look that made my stomach twist.
“What is it?” I asked carefully.
“What did you tell Ruby to do tonight?”
My chest tightened, but I forced my tone steady. “Why? Did she say something?”
