SOPHIA’S POV
“Mum, what are you doing here?” Jace asked.
Anita lifted her chin. “Don’t sound so surprised. A board meeting about the company’s future isn’t something I can be excluded from.”
“This isn’t family drama, mum. It’s business,” he said.
“And yet you brought this woman here,” Anita pointed at me. “She doesn’t belong. Maybe I can have the board member talk some sense into you.”
“We can deal with this later. If you mess up with my business I’ll never forgive you,” he warned and walked off, pulling me with him.
I winked at Anita as we walked past, satisfaction spreading in my chest but I knew it wouldn’t last with her still hovering around.
When we got to the boardroom, Jace stopped by the door.
