I hurried back to where Evan had fallen asleep. I had to warn him of how close to danger we were. Annabelle could be here, we still didn’t know but either way, I didn’t feel comfortable being so close to that cave. And I wasn’t going to go exploring inside without mentioning it to Evan first and I was sure he wouldn’t let me go in alone.
When I got to where the fire was still burning softly, I quickly threw dirt over it, trying to put it out as fast as I could. Although I didn’t think it mattered anymore, the flames had been burning for a lot of time, giving our position away.
