CHAPTER 7 : Reflection

1944 Words
Mikaela walked with a pile of paper in her hand, she had to copy all the papers in the middle of work hours, a pile of paper which was her work and the work of other employees who already felt senior and arbitrarily ordered Mikaela to. Not surprisingly, Mikaela already knew that some employees looked at her with a look of dislike. He sighed repeatedly in the elevator to go down to the lobby, under the copier line in the left hand corner near the entrance. The office should put one or two copiers on each floor and not put them together on one floor like this, it was more efficient and saved time for employees not to go up and down the room. Mikaela would later protest to Darren. Yes, if she had bravery. Mikaela laughed sadly in her heart, even she did not have any courage to say hello to Darren. The girl paid attention to her surroundings, while continuing to multiply each sheet of paper she was carrying. There were also many employees who were copying their work, which some of them were women. They seemed to be laughing, talking to their friends, as well as others, laughing, joking while eating chocolate and some snacks. Mikaela understood now, they would rather go downstairs like this to take a break from their work, taking the time to meet other friends who might be from different divisions. Mikaela would try it later by inviting Tiwi to make a pact in that place if she was tired. "Yeah." Mikaela complained about copying one of the parts incorrectly. She was too absorbed in daydreaming. She reopened the copier to replace the paper with the new paper she was supposed to copy. "Good morning, sir." Reflexively, Mikaela glanced over when she heard the security guard greet someone who had just entered. Then she lookedagain, this time she really looked at it. Mikaela's eyes were locked by the figure of two people who came holding hands. A very beautiful woman that Mikaela had only seen from afar holding Darren's hand. The woman was Darren's fiance. Apparently up close, she was far more beautiful. They walked toward the private elevator that was devoted to Darren. Mikaela turned her face to look ahead, there was a reflection of herself in the window of the office. Mikaela silently compared herself to Darren's fiancée, how beautiful, tall and elegant she was. With a mature face and a very friendly smile to the employees who greeted her and the clothes she wore were also very expensive, Mikaela knew that because in the past when she had everything she had dreamed of working with clothes like that, blazer suits with expensive pencil skirts and bags which all women dreamed of, yes, even though Mikaela also had an expensive gift bag from Rendy. She looked at herself in the reflection of the glass, she was nothing compared to that man's fiance. "They're match each other." A woman started to gossip. "Yes, I'm also very jealous." "The handsome man, the beautiful woman, the doctor, she's a famous doctor." "Yes, I saw her on television when she was invited to be a guest speaker." "It's rumored that one television station will sign her and make an event for her." "Really? She will be more famous. It really makes me jealous, even though she was more suitable to be a model, beautiful and tall." "Furthermore, she is not arrogant always friendly to employees and always gives them smiles." "Perfect, they really are very compatible. If only Mr. Darren was a single man." Mikaela heard the women nearby talking about Darren and her fiance. One of them laughed. "Don’t you dare to dream, even though Mr. Darren is still single, he will not want to be with ordinary employees like us, especially our ordinary faces." Said one of the girls in purple blazers. "Besides, it's been four years since they were in a relationship, already engaged and about to get married, it’s very imposible." The girl's words made Mikaela aware of the reality. That’s true, she only hoped that Darren would be nice to her and became close friends like Rendy and Daffa, and she did not want anymore. Mikaela immediately finished her work and returned to the top, she was afraid that Darren would get angry if his secretary was not there, Lina had left this office two days ago. There was no more friend to guide her, she must do all the work with the abilities she had. When there was Lina, no one dared to order Mikaela. Before Lina left, she also advised Mikaela to be strong and patient in working and dealing with her boss. It seemed not only to Mikaela that Darren was being cruel, but also for Lina and other employees, so Mikaela could breathe with relief because of Rendy's and Daffa's support. Don’t worry, Mikaela had been persistent to all of Darren's cold behavior from the past, she did not know if Darren was  more cruel to her now. Darren once made her hurt, broken heart and all kinds of other pain. Now she really had no idea, what kind of Darren she was dealing with, so she would live her days vigorously, bearing in mind that there were many people who encouragedher. Mikaela had returned to her desk after giving her seniors’ tasks. She piled the papers on the table. Just now,she sat on the chair, the telephone on her desk rang. She immediately picked up the call from Darren. "Make two cups of coffee, don't be too sweet." "Alright, Sir." Darren told Mikaela to make coffee for his and his fiance. Mikaela could already guess, they were together in Darren's room. The girl immediately got up to make coffee ordered by Darren. One office boy gave a cup that was taken from a different glass cabinet. He said if it was specifically for the boss and their important guests. The cream-colored ceramic cup with a black stripe was exclusively for Darren and his fiance. Shortly after Mikaela finished making black coffee Darren ordered, she immediately headed to Darren's room to deliver the coffee. Before entering, Mikaela knocked on the door first, remembering that Darren had scolded Lina because she forgot to knock on the door. "Come in please." A deep voice came from inside, Mikaela held the tray with one hand while the other hand opened the door. She glanced a little to see the position of Darren and her fiance. They sat across from the sofa, unlike Mikaela's shadow before. She imagined how Darren's fiance sat close to Darren on the couch while making out. A little bit hurry, Mikaela put the hot coffee on the table. "Here are the coffees, sir." She said hugging the tray she was holding, like a maid. "So this is Lina's replacement?" Asked the beautiful woman while smiling looking at Mikaela. "Yes, I'm Lina's replacement." answered Mikaela trying to calm down and return the smile. The woman who Mikaela knew was named Caroline stood up, giving her right hand to Mikaela. “I'm Caroline." she said friendly. With a little stiff and shy, Mikaela replied to Caroline's helping hand. "Mikaela." "Nice to meet you, Mikaela." "Nice to meet you too, Mam Caroline." "Ei, don't call me ma'am, do I look old?" Mikaela felt bad about her words. "Oh, no. You are very beautiful and .." "Leave it, Caroline, it suited her to call you that, because she works for me, she also has to respect you as my future wife." cut Darren without looking at Mikaela. "But Lina called me Caroline." Caroline sat back down, this time beside Darren, holding her arm, signaling that she was protesting. "Lina is your friend. She's different." "I don't want to look so old with the nickname ‘Mam’, Darren." Even though Mikaela knew that this was their spoiled debate, Mikaela felt uncomfortable in this situation, let alone hear Darren's words. "Mr. Darren is right. I must call you that." said Mikaela finally. "Don't be like that Mikaela, I am glad if you consider me as a friend." Mikaela only replied Caroline's words with a smile. "I leave first." She prepared to step out of the room, before Darren's firm voice stopped him. "I didn't tell you to come out." This time Darren looked at Mikaela sharply. "You see the papers on my desk? Clean them now." Mikaela looked over at Darren's table, on which was already piled up with piles of paper. While he was gone, Darren forbade anyone from entering his room. Caroline chuckled at Mikaela listlessly stepping to Darren's desk. "You must bear with your boss's character Mikaela." she said while teasing Darren. "He is indeed a reliable teller." "It is okay." Mikaela began to tidy up the papers with her back to both of them. "Your habits have not changed a biti, you always lock your room when you go, your room becomes stuffy and dusty, Darren." Mikaela listened without seeing Caroline talking to Darren. "I ordered several office boys to clean it earlier." Darren always told his employees to clean the room without tidying up his desk, because of the experience that many important documents had been wasted because of their ignorance and that made Darren fire them all. Darren did not want this to be repeated, so he entrusted his secretary to separate important and unimportant documents on his desk. Including Mikaela, the girl had to be able to take care of everything that Darren needed and didn't need, besides making use of circumstances to make her suffer. "You have to know what you need to fix and get rid of it." said Darren. "Okay, Sir." Caroline looked at Darren with a calm look, she knew that her fiance was in the cruel as a boss, but Darren was very professional at work. "You're too fierce dear." Disregarding Caroline's words, Darren got up from the sofa and walked to get the wine he had stored in his refrigerator in the room. Mikaela glanced over. Darren really intended to work on it, he asked for black coffee from Mikaela but still the wine he drinks. "You didn't drink your coffee?" Caroline asked in Darren's direction. "Too sweet, you know I don't like things that are too sweet, don't you? Even though I asked her don’t make it too sweet." teased Darren. Mikaela straightened up, faced Darren and Caroline who were by the window, then she bowed her head. "I'm sorry sir, next time I will not do that again." "It's okay if you're still newcomer." Defended Caroline. The woman walked and looked at the expanse of housing from the height of Darren's room. There was a mountain far away, but it can still be seen by the eye. And the clouds covering the mountain. While Mikaela re-cleared the paper, important documents were very complicated because Mikaela had to separate them and arrange them neatly and correctly. "What do you see, honey?" Darren hugged Caroline from behind. Mikaela looked to see what Darren had done to Caroline, with lightning speed she turned her face away from the couple again. "What are you doing? Your secretary is here." Said Caroline shyly with her groin which Mikaela could still hear. Mikaela felt aching in her chest, while swallowing hard with discomfort, she hurriedly took care of the rest of the papers. "Let's just say she doesn't exist." said Darren, who sounded cruel to Mikaela. "Darren." Caroline turned to hold Darren's hands, warning him that he had to stop what he was doing. "Mrs. Darren." Darren turned Caroline's arm back and hugged her tightly from behind. Caroline giggled delightly. "What do you want on your birthday?" "Hmmmm" Caroline murmured at Darren's offer. "My birthday is still long." "Yes, two more months dear. I will prepare a big  party for you." Darren kissed Caroline on the cheek. While Mikaela could only stare at the intimate reflection of their intimate view from the glass cabinet in front of her with a heart that could not be described. Watching the person she loved hugged another woman with affection. Wasn’t Mikaela's heart very strong?
