Chapter 43

2301 Words

They were announced at dinner, and the atmosphere in the dining room was strained. “Ladies, I hope you enjoyed your day, and we couldn’t let a beautiful day like today end without a proper dinner.” Brenton tried to lighten the mood a little. His darling wife might have seen her mother do this, but it was hundreds of years ago, and she would require some polishing on the way she works with people. “Good evening, everyone.” Vanora smiled brightly. They sat down and dinner was served. Brenton watched the discussions and noticed that the ladies weren’t really talking. It was their husbands who were mostly talking. “My love, didn’t you mention that you want to have a spring ball?” He started the conversation, knowing that if the ladies had other plans, their husbands would be loyal to him.
