“You have seen her? You have talked to her?” I asked in disbelief. I held out the photo of Amy, my fingers trembling with a mixture of hope, fear, and frustration. The lady, who seemed to be the shop owner, studied the photo again before nodding slowly, her expression thoughtful. She was a middle-aged lady with a warm smile that crinkled the corners of her eyes.
“Yes, she had been around town these past few days and had bought a few items from my shop.” That confirmed my belief that the one I was talking to was the shop owner. “We had a small talk. She was looking for a moon pendant. I had a few of them, but none caught her eye.” She looked at me with sad eyes. “I’m afraid she might have left recently. People come and go in Aqua Vista all the time, you know.”
