We left the building. Got into Donovan's car. None of us said anything.
The silence was crushing.
Emily sat in the back seat crying. Donovan started the engine. I just stared out the window.
My medical license. Gone.
My career. Over.
Everything I'd worked for. Everything I'd sacrificed. All of it. Gone.
Because of Kieran.
"Where to?" Donovan asked.
"I don't care."
He drove back to his house. The whole way I just stared. My mind was blank. Empty.
When we got there, Emily got out first.
"I need to go," she said. "Johns Hopkins is going to come after me now. I broke my NDA in a public hearing. They're going to sue me."
"I'm sorry," I said.
"Don't be. I made my choice. I just hope it was worth something."
She walked to her car and drove away.
Donovan and I went inside.
