CHAPTER SIXTY
ADAM’S POV
You know that feeling when you're trying to be supportive of your girl-well, your friend who’s a girl because you haven’t officially asked her to be yours-but those pesky, terrifying intrusive thoughts sneak in? The ones that whisper things you’d rather not think about, like whether she and the guy she’s with could ever be... more than just friends? Hikaru is just a friend to Ella, right? He couldn’t possibly want her, could he? And there’s no way she’d want him back. Right?
I’m in the middle of yet another frustrated sigh when Petra, perched on the opposite seat, slams the book she’s holding shut. The sharp sound jolts me out of my spiraling thoughts, and I glance up in surprise.
