Chapter 2: Nick

I smirk as I watch Katie’s cute little ass shake as she storms away from me. I know I shouldn’t pick on her like I do, but it is just too easy. It has always been too easy to get under her skin and get on her nerves. Little does she know just how many of my wet dreams have been caused by her. I watch as she shoves her big brother, Josh, out of the way and calls him a jackass on her way into the facility.

He stumbles to the side and turns back to look at her in confusion. “Well, hello to you as well.” He turns back to me and shakes his head in pure confusion as he walks closer. “What the f**k is her problem?”

I smirk and shrug my shoulders. “I don’t know, man. I was just trying to say hi to her, that’s all.”

He groans and rubs a hand down his face. I smirk because I know that he knows exactly what happened. “What the f**k, Nick. You know better than to do that s**t. She is already nervous for her first day, you could be a little nicer to her.”

I smirk and roll my eyes. “You have always told me not to be nice to your sister. Even when we were kids you told me to not be nice to her because I was, and I quote, ‘your friend and not her friend’, end quote.”

He sighs and shakes his head slowly. “You can be a jackass sometimes.”

I smirk and nod my head. “Yeah, but only because it is so much easier to be a jackass than it is to be nice.”

He sighs and shakes his head. “Alright, Lieutenant Olsen, I guess it is time for us to get into work now.”

I smirk and nod my head. “You’re right, Sergeant Parks. Let’s get this shift started so we can go the f**k home.”

I follow Josh into the lobby of the facility where I watch Katie strip down to just her scrubs to try and make it through the metal detector. It doesn’t fail because every time she steps through, the damn thing goes off. I know why it is going off, but I am not about to help her out.

“What the actual,” she starts under her breath.

I chuckle as I watch her go through the equipment a third time in pure frustration . She snaps her head up and stares daggers at me as I throw my hands up and turn away. She huffs as she steps through yet again and it goes off.

“What the hell!”

“Okay, just breathe. Here, let’s figure this out together.” Josh says to his baby sister.

She groans and steps over to him with a pitiful look on her face as if she were ashamed to have to have her big brother’s help.

“Okay,” she says sadly. “Just, help me figure this out so I am not late.”

He nods his head as they step to the side and I walk over to the table to place all of my equipment on it to go through the detector myself. I quickly step through and spread my arms and legs wide so the officer on the other side of it can pat my body down before I go back and grab all of my equipment. I smirk as I pass little Miss Katie Bug on my way back around and I see the sternness in her eyes grow deadly. I had no idea that her working with us was going to be so much fun.

I step to the side and watch as she finally makes it through the metal detector and stands awkwardly on the other side as she waits for a female officer to come around and pat her down as well. It took all of my might to not laugh at her as she awkwardly raised her arms and blushed as the female officer quickly patted her down to be cleared for entry into the facility.

I smirk as more male officers enter into the building and they start to eyeball the new and hot young nurse. Deep down, I want to strangle them all for staring at her like she is a piece of meat. I watch as Josh steps to the side and moves closer to me as a couple of the other officers move towards his sister.

“Well, hello there, miss,” Officer Barks said. This fat bastard was probably in his late forties and easily twice Katie’s age. He was disgusting towards the medical staff and continuously hit on the younger nurses. We have written him up several times for this situation, but nothing I do seems to get the captains or the warden involved to get him fired.

Katie, not knowing any better, responded to him. “Hello,” she said sheepishly as Barks moved through the metal detector and ended up standing in front of her on the other side.

I glare at him as he moves uncomfortably close to her and she takes a step back.

“So, what is your name? You must be new here since I don’t know who you are.”

I cleared my throat and grabbed everyone’s attention. I looked at Katie who had a help me look in her eyes as she realized she f****d up and I nodded my head to her. “Miss Parks, are you ready to go to the health care unit?”

She nodded her head enthusiastically and moved past Barks. “Yes, sir. Thank you, Lieutenant Olsen.”

I glared at Barks one last time as I unlocked the door to the prison and opened it for her to step through. I quickly closed it behind me and gave a small sigh of relief at the fact that he was no longer in sight. “From here on out, ignore Barks. He is nothing but trouble and only wants one thing out of you.”

Katie snorted and rolled her eyes. “I can hardly guess,” she said sarcastically as she turned to look at me. “So, where is the health care unit?”

I nodded down the hall and indicated for her to walk in front of me. “This way. Stay in front of me so I can watch you and make sure no one tries to mess with you. I will also have your back to make sure they don’t try to grab you on our way through. Stay inside of the green lines on the floor and they shouldn’t mess with you at all.”

She nods her head and looks down at the green lines. “What happens if the inmates cross over this green line?”

I sigh and shake my head slowly. “It might be best to not know everything for once in your life. Just know that things will be taken care of and I don’t think you are going to want to know how they are taken care of. Now, walk so I can get you out of the middle of the prison, please.”

She nods her head and starts to walk down the hall. As we pass the inmates, most of them turn and face the wall so as not to frighten her or to give the wrong idea. One inmate decided he was going to stare at her the whole time we were walking and I gave him a singular glare before I stomped on his toe with my steel toed boots.

“Hold on, Miss Parks,” I say as I keep my foot planted firmly on his toe. I turn to him and lean in close to whisper in his ear. “You know the rules, inmate. You do not look at the nurses when they walk in and out of this facility. Do you understand me?”

The inmate nods firmly and mumbles under his breath. “Yes, sir.”

I release his foot and nod for Katie to keep going as I quickly fall into place behind her until we reach the medical unit.

“What was that about?” She looks at me with a stern face as I sigh and shake my head.

“Just know there are things you don’t need to know that happen here. When you are asked what happened, you tell them you don’t know. Is that clear?”

She sighs and rolls her eyes as she folds her arms over her chest. That amazing chest that I didn’t know where it came from. I know she didn’t get her rack from her mother, but hell, she didn’t get anything really from her mother. She got her blue eyes, black hair, and square face from her father. I guess she got her full lips, small nose, small frame, and huge round eyes from her mother, but most everything else, like her attitude, came from her USMC father.

She looks at me pointedly as I come back from my imagination. “Hello… Are you going to let me in?”

I clear my throat and nod my head as I pull my keys off of my belt and unlock the door for her.

“Sorry about that. I was thinking about the game from last night,” I lied to her.

She just rolled her eyes and stepped through the door. “Whatever… Bye.”

I pull the door closed behind her and lock it tightly into place. “Bye,” I say to it as I sigh and shake my head. I didn’t realize just how hard it was going to be to work with her too. I know for a fact this place will do some crazy things to a person. Even those who get to leave and come back each day. I turn around and make my way to the shift office when I see a couple of other officers make their way towards the health care unit. I guess word has already gotten around that there is a new nurse in town and she is quite the piece to look at. I just hope these bastards don’t try to make a move on her.

If I can’t have Katie, nobody can…
