After about four hours in the emergency room, they determined that the six of us were good to go home. They gave all of us two weeks off of work and the county agreed to take over all of our bills for the next three months to help us recover mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially from this horrible situation. Hell, they even gave each family a food stipend of four thousand dollars to buy groceries for the next three months. Did each family of two need that much money? Hell no. Were we going to say anything about it? Hell no.
We ended up leaving the sheriff's office at about noon and we all headed to our respective homes. I couldn’t wait to get home and get a nice, hot shower with Nick and I couldn’t wait to crawl into bed and fall straight to sleep.
