“The kid’s index found the software, the Software that Runs the Universe. Found Loki. The software ordered me to bring the kid. I brought him. Loki has him.” Virgil was babbling. His sentence structure decayed even more rapidly than his features aged.
“Not anymore, remember?”
His dazed eyes inspected Dana’s face as he tried to focus. Then a clarity of light shown around his eyes and he grabbed her wrists with a strength that belied his condition.
“Trouble. Loki. Apocalypse. The software is pre-empting the universe. Jeremy’s index mustn’t fall into Messiah’s hands. Must be wiped. But Software, Loki fascinated with their toy.”
“Where—”
“Cool toy.” His eyes drifted as he interrupted her. “Can’t let Messiah know. Loki. Software. End of it all. Apocalypse coming.”
