Chapter twenty-oneAnd then... Shards of glass glittered across the marble floor. Fire crystal radiance struck back in stars of light from the heaping piles of gems. Everywhere the glint of gold filled the chamber with richness. No single speck of dust marred the luxurious yet somber scene. The nine sarcophagi stood in their ring of death. The altar at the center supported the emerald whose greenness sheened into the air with the mysterious tones of the undersea. Silence reigned. Tralgan Vorner halted just inside the entrance and put a hand to his face. He felt the flesh and the bone structure. That face was solid, heavy, and he knew the dark blood flushed to give him that lowering appearance of the Vorner family. Strange, he said to himself, damned strange to have my own face back! As
