BOOK 2: 51

1035 Words

Zach straightened his spine like someone slammed a steel rod through it. He didn’t like the question she asked earlier...why he was helping her. He didn’t like the way it made his chest feel tight or the way her eyes looked too raw, too honest. So he swallowed it all down and forced out the coldest answer he could manage. “I’m not really helping you,” he muttered, jaw flexing. “I’m only helping my wolf… because the i***t is bonded to yours.” It sounded harsh, dismissive, emotionless. But it was a damn lie and they both felt it. The car rolled to a stop. They both stepped out, the evening breeze carrying the sharp scent of water and wet leaves. When their eyes met in that moment outside the car...her gaze questioning, his running from her...it felt like the whole f*****g world froze.
