“Tch,” one guard spat on the stone floor, his voice rough and anxious. “Thank the f*****g Moon Goddess the Alpha doesn’t know you escaped, girl. Otherwise? We’d all be f*****g dead.” Maya barely heard him through the ringing in her skull. The silver chain around her neck burned with every breath she took, the seared skin beneath it blistered and bloody. Her body ached in ways she didn’t know were possible, and still, she refused to cry. She clenched her jaw, lifting her head just enough to glare at the guard. “Then take this off,” she rasped, her voice like sandpaper. “I’m back in this damn dungeon.
