EPISODE FOUR

Nanny Angela awakened by a loud knock on her door. She falls asleep while waiting for her boss to arrive. She rubbed her eyes with her hands then, she pick up her phone under her pillow and look what time is it. It was past ten-thirty PM. She stood up immediately as she heard the loud knock again.

“Why you didn’t tell me about Charles’s recognition earlier?” said charles’s father while his voice is a bit loud. “Do you really want to get fired for your wrong actions?”

Angela became speechless after she heard what her boss said to her. She felt hurt because she knows that she never did anything wrong. In fact, she tried her best to talk to him but instead of listening, he shouted at her and said everything that offended her and hurt her feelings.

“You are really irresponsible, Angela! We are paying you right but you’re still doing inappropriate things like this. This is the last time that you will do this in my family. I will watch over you and when you did wrong like this again, I’m sorry to say but you better pack up your things and leave because when this things happened again, you’re fired.”

The maid is just standing in front of the door of her room while her boss is standing in front of her and pointing his finger on Angela’s face while shouting at her. She’s just holding her hands together while she bowed her head for giving respect to her boss despite of his disrespectful attitude.

“I’m sorry, Sir!” she said.

It was the only words that come from her mouth after the bloody words that she heard from her boss. Her boss left her standing life a statue whom afraid to make any move. She knows that Charles’s father is watching her and waiting for her to make a wrong move. After a few moments of being stuck in that position, she entered her room and sit on her bed.

Deep sigh and deep breathe is the only medicine that she used to at least, ease the pain that she feel at this moment. Her tears started to fall but she’s trying to stop it by closing her eyes and telling herself that, it’s okay and you’ll be fine. But then, when that came up to her mind again, she will start being emotional eventually.

She can’t handle it anymore. She started crying over and over just to release the pain in her chest. She lay down her body on her bed and hugged her pillows. While crying silently, those words that her boss told her didn’t stop running in her mind. She can’t help but just cry. This is the only thing that she can do.

She is still asking herself what did she did, to make her boss felt angry at her just like how she acted earlier. She never expects that her concern to their child will lead her for being jobless. She never thought that being soft-hearted and kind to other people will led her into tears. So, she felt very disappointed to herself for being a person she is, right now. If she only has a chance to change like a stronger version of her, maybe she might never be like this.

She suddenly stopped crying when she received a phone call. She wiped the tears in her face and tried to calm down. She took a deep sigh before she answers the call.

“Hello,” she said. She lowered her voice to hide that she is crying at this moment.

“How are you?” said the person on the other line.

“I’m okay, here! How about you?” she said. She is covering the speaker of her phone every time she snored.

“I’m okay!”

“How about our daughter, huh?” How is she?”

“She’s okay. In fact, she’s telling me stories about her experiences in school. She also said that she wants to see you and she really missed you.”

“Please tell her that I miss her, too.”

The maid who is trying to hold her emotion since earlier can’t handle her tears anymore. Her tears started to flow down on her cheeks. She covers her mouth to make sure that she can’t create a noise. Her husband, who called her to tell her a story about their daughter.

“Angela,” said her husband.

She can’t speak because her husband will know that she is crying. She’s holding her tears but she can’t handle it anymore.

“Angela, I can hear your sob. What happened?” he said. “Angela,” he shouted. “Angela,”

He continued calling her name until the moment that Angela, speak again on the phone.

“Honey, I know that you can hear me. So, please, talk to me. Tell me what happened.” He said. “I’m here. I will listen to you.”

Angela took a deep sigh before she faced the explanation that she needs to do. She closed her eyes and holds her chest then took a deep sigh for a couple of times until she felt the lightness in her chest.

“I’m okay. Don’t worry about me.”

“You’re lying. I know that you’re not. So, please, Angela. Tell me.” He said. “Are your employer, mistreated you well?”

“No!” she said, fast.

“Then, why you’re crying at this moment and why did you hide it to me?”

“I just miss you and your daughter, that is the reason why I’m crying. I just can’t help myself to feel this kind of feeling, because earlier, I attended the recognition of the child that I’m taking care of.”

“And then,”

“I just wish that, I was there in my daughter’s recognition, too.”

She took a deep sigh after she said it.

“Why don’t you asked your employer to allow you to go home, even if just in your daughter’s recognition, so that you can’t miss those kind of event in your child’s life, isn’t it?”

Angela, took a deep sigh as a respond.

“Even just for your daughter. I’m sure that she will be very happy if you will join her in that kind of situation. And, she will be more inspired to study more.”

“Okay,” she whispered.

She took a deep sigh then she told her husband that she need to rest because she will wake up early in the morning, tomorrow. She also said that, please tell my child that I will call her tomorrow because she wants to say hello and she wants to talk to her.

“Okay, please take care for me, always.”

“I will.” She said.

“I love you.” He whispered.

Those words stay in Angela’s mind that made her smile over and over, at that moment.

“I love you, too.” She replied.

After that conversation, she hang up the phone and Lay again in her bed. She hugged her pillow and closed her eyes and tried to sleep.

On the other hand, after Andrew, Charles’s father, he saw that his wife is lying on their bed while waiting for him.

“I will just go to shower, Love.” He said. His wife just nod at him.

Andrew, get his towel and entered the shower room. Then go out after a couple of minutes.

“Hmm, Love ,“ his wife said while looking at him.

“I heard something earlier when you are outside. Is there anything wrong that happened?”

“Ugh, nothing.” He said while putting the blanket in his body. “Not that important.”

“Really? . . . Then, why I heard that you’re shouting outside? And whom?”

“That, Angela.” He said then took a deep sigh. “She ruined my day.”

“What did she do?”

“She called me early in the morning when I’m preparing for an important meeting with our clients. I tried to ask her why she called me, but she didn’t answer it.” The tone of his voice has a bit louder.

“And then? Did she even tell you the reason why she just called you?” she said while her voice sounds calm. “Did you even asked her or wait for her explanation?”

“I did! But, it looks like that Lady is just making a play with me and just wasting my time. Well, because of what she did, I told her that if she did it again, If she intend to waste my time again, she will get what she deserves.”

“And, what is it?”

“I told her that she will be kicked outside the house and I will fire her for not doing her job. Her job is to take care of our son, Charles, and clean the house, and then do the laundry . . . That’s all. So, wasting our time is not her job.”

Her wife, sit down slowly and face her husband who already lying on their bed. She’s looking at him, badly.

“Why you said it to her?”

“Why not?” He said. “She deserves it.”

“She also deserves to explain. You should listen to her, first, before you said it to her.”

Her wife took a deep sigh, and scratched her head.

“You’re not even thinking that your words can hurt her feelings.” She said. “You know that she’s with us for almost seven years, but you still in doubt in her. You are so unfair, Andrew!”

“Yeah, maybe those words can hurt her, but she deserves to hear it for her wrong doings.” He said.

“In fact, she didn’t told me yesterday that Charles have a special recognition today. If she only tell me that, maybe I can find time for our son.” He said with a deep sigh. “Maybe she wants our son to be more close with her than with us, whom Charles’s real parents. She’s so irresponsible.”

“I don’t think so!” she whispered.

Her husband, pucker his forehead while looking at her.

“She called me early in the morning too, when I am waiting for our customers. And she told me that Charles has a special recognition today. She said that, Charles choose not to tell us because he knows that even we know about it, we can’t still attend and go with him.”

“She said that?”

Her wife, nod at her.

“Maybe, that is the reason why she called me! Maybe, she wants to asked me if I can go with our son but I choose to shout and felt mad at her.” He said while his voice is lowered.

“Exactly!”

He face palm and shake his head while holding his face. “If I only listen to her, first, before I shouted at her. I became so mean at her, today! I felt the conscience because of my actions.”

“You should say sorry for everything you said to her. Because, I’m pretty sure that she’s so hurt because of your words and maybe, she cried a lot because of it.”

“Yeah, you’re right.”

“Maybe I just need time to apologize for what I did.”

“And, your son, she deserves a gift because of his achievements for today.”

“We will find ways and time to do it, but for now, we need to rest because I’m so tired. We will continue talking about that in some other time, okay?” he said.

He grabbed his wife’s face and suddenly kissed her forehead. “Good night.” He said, then he covered his body with their blanket while his wife, stood up and get a bottle of water and prepared herself to sleep.
