Stefan did not know Charlene was the one who killed King Gerard. He found out from her own lips.
Besides, Stefan found out -thanks to Emma- that was Charlene was who had my mother and was the true leader of FDL.
“Stefan, it is not what you think!” Charlene replied between tears. “Darling! Please!”

Melina’s assistant and Romero’s mistress worked for Charlene. Hugo got their confessions when Emma assisted him in their interrogation. One after the other spilled it out. Stefan left Melina in her cell to focus on them.
