Stillness and quiet is a funny thing because it not a sound but a breathing living faceless creature. It consumes, festers and grows. Until the only thing one can hear is the rhythmic pounding of their heartbeat in their ears. There is no escaping it. It is why students listen to music while they study, or writers enjoy the "quiet" of a cafe. The truth is no one likes silence, for it makes one feel alone. Even though the room was filled with life, it felt devoid of it because our six warm bodies would never account for the loss of life we knew was buried in those pages.
