Declan “Hello?" Sam's deep baritone rang out from the other end of the phone. “Sam, it's me, Declan Pierce." There was a long pause. “What do you want? Calling to gloat? Tell me you told me so?" I cleared my throat to clear away the lump there, but it didn't do any good. From the tone of his voice, Sam loved her, too. “No, nothing like that." I switched ears, prolonging the inevitable. “Sam, I hate to say this, but I have some bad news... about Isabel. And I didn't want you to hear it on the street." There was another long pause. “I'm listening." “Isabel committed suicide tonight." I let out a deep breath, tears filling my eyes. “What?" His voice raised several octaves. “How? When?" “Isabel made a scene at the Waterway Club earlier today, and I had some of the guards take her home.
