“Easy, try to relax. They don’t know about you yet. And the ones who do would never say anything. It is important for you to stay secret as long as possible.” Hawkins looked up to see Lance strolling towards them. He was looking at the kid with suspicion. “Look, I'm out of time. Alistair is coming to get you any day now. Don’t be alarmed.” He then took a small step backwards and took off running as Lance arrived at Kailee’s side.
Kailee watched as Hawkins dashed behind a building and disappeared. She felt Lance’s hand land on her shoulder and could feel his eyes searching her face.
“What’s wrong? What happened?” Lance asked quietly. He had noticed her body looking more tense even from that distance. It was enough to make him feel suspicious.
