My whole body grew numb and my mind went blank as my father announced in front of the media and guests that Emily and I were getting engaged. Emily’s father and mine shook hands with each other in front of the media so that they could take photos. It was nothing more than a business deal in the gauze of a marriage! My father and Emily’s walked off of the stage leaving the hall so that they could give us the spotlight.
My hand was still wrapped around Emily’s waist. The media was taking our picture as the news was broadcast live on television, the internet, and in a few seconds it would be spread on social media platforms. I quickly walked away, letting go of Emily’s waist. She flinched a little as everyone looked at me in shock.
