I blinked open my eyes to sharp sunlight shining on my face through the curtain of the window closest to my bed. I felt emotionally drained and tired. I clutched the hulk toy figurine tighter in my arms and I felt a wave of fresh tears starting to burn in the corner of my eyes. ‘I should have been there.’ Chastised myself. ‘I could have done something… anything.’
I sat up slowly and looked around the room. Everything was quiet. Hunter was sleeping in the hospital cot next to mine which Athena had occupied the day before and across from ours I could see Daisy lying on another cot with a heavily bandaged head. Next to her bed sat the same nurse from yesterday. She was slumped in her chair as she slept, no doubt that she passed out due to exhaustion while watching over Daisy. Colt
