CATHERYNN POV “Keep moving!” Rex stumbled beside me, his small hand clutched tightly in mine as I dragged him deeper into the forest. Branches tore at my clothes and scratched against my skin, but I barely noticed. My lungs burned with every breath as we ran. The sounds of the battle followed us through the trees. Explosions shook the ground beneath our feet while distant screams and howls echoed through the forest. I didn't look back. Looking back got you killed. “Grandma, wait!” My feet faltered at the name.
