Lost
“Mommy? Daddy? Where are you?” I call out for my parents, frightened and alone lost in the woods after a pick nick. We were heading back home when I left the trail and went looking for flowers to pick for Mother’s Day, but of course, at the age of four, you get lost without your parents. A snapping branch behind me snapped me out of my thoughts, and I was suddenly staring into the eyes of a huge, pitch black wolf. My head began spinning, and I turned around and ran out of the forest, not realising there was a cliff nearby. The sound of giant footsteps behind me made me even more frightened, and just as I was about to fall to my death, something grabbed my shirt from behind and yanked me back, saving my life.

My eyes opened, and I was cold sweating. Tears were running down my face as I remembered a long forgotten memory of my saviour. That was the night I learned that I was a werewolf. I had been to my parent’s funeral earlier today. My brother, along with the entire pack, blamed me for them being killed by a rogue wolf. And maybe they were right. I seem to be a magnet for bad luck, and something always happens to me. My only joy now, is that my parent’s got to see me shift into my wolf for the first time, but they didn’t get to see me being rejected by my mate at their funeral, for all to see. A sharp knock on the door makes me aware of my surroundings. The cold, stone floor, the small cot and a pot in the corner for me to pee in. They threw me in the dungeon while figuring out what to do with me. “Emily Brown, you are requested in the presence of the Alpha” the guard says before turning around and stomping away. I get up and quietly follow him, tripping in my own shoes more than once as we walk to the office. I try not to look at the walls, knowing full well what’s about to happen. They will exile me, cast me out and into the woods to become rogue. We enter the luxurious office, and the council, Alpha and Luna and their son, James, is all waiting for me. My heart drops, but I know what will happen, and they won’t see the pain in my eyes as they sever the bonds to me. “Emily Brown. As Alpha of Half-moon pack, I hereby exile you from our pack. You will be banished, and no longer have your connection with the rest of the wolves. Say the words, and leave my sight”. The pain starts throbbing in my belly, and I know it won’t go away until I cast my pack away. I swallow hard one time and look Alpha Jackson in the eyes. “I, Emily Brown, hereby reject this pack. I will be free to become a rogue wolf, and I will leave this pack and never return” I say. I turn around, open the door and run down the hallway. I don’t look at the pictures on the wall, and I barely notice the people laughing as I pass them. All I know, is that I have to get out of here, and fast. I exit the building, and start running north towards the edge of the woods. I pass the guards and shift into Enya, my dark brown wolf, and let her take us through the woods until we both pass out from exhaustion. My tears are streaming down my face, but all I can think of is the hurtful words that left a permanent mark on me as I was rejected from the only pack I know, just because bad luck follows me around. Enya fall down by a fallen tree, and we fall asleep, praying that we don’t meet any rogues.
