Amara’s tears soaked into his shirt as she clung to him, her breath coming in shaky gasps. The memories of the attack replayed in her mind, and she couldn’t stop the flood of emotions that crashed over her. She had been so scared, so helpless. But Darius had come. He had saved her. “I was so scared,” Amara choked out, her voice muffled against his chest. “I thought… I thought I was going to…” Darius tightened his hold on her, his heart aching with every word. “I know,” he murmured. “But you’re safe now. I won’t let anyone hurt you. I promise.” They stayed like that for a long time, wrapped in each other’s arms, the silence between them filled with unspoken words. Amara’s sobs eventually subsided, though her grip on Darius remained firm, as if she couldn’t bear the thought of letting go.
