Amara’s tears soaked into his shirt as she clung to him, her breath coming in shaky gasps. The memories of the attack replayed in her mind, and she couldn’t stop the flood of emotions that crashed over her. She had been so scared, so helpless. But Darius had come. He had saved her.
“I was so scared,” Amara choked out, her voice muffled against his chest. “I thought… I thought I was going to…”
Darius tightened his hold on her, his heart aching with every word. “I know,” he murmured. “But you’re safe now. I won’t let anyone hurt you. I promise.”
