The moonlight bathed Stormveil’s grand garden in a soft glow as I stepped outside, Ayana walking quietly beside me. I still couldn’t believe she had asked me to join her for a stroll. Everything felt surreal—the dinner, Tessa’s outburst, Caleb’s stunned silence, and now this moment with the soon-to-be Luna of one of the strongest allied packs.
Ayana tucked a strand of hair behind her ear before turning to me. “I’m sorry about what happened in there,” she said gently. “Tessa had no right to speak to you like that.”
I smiled faintly, but the ache in my chest was too raw to cover up completely. “It’s okay,” I murmured. “I guess I should’ve expected it.”
Her brow furrowed. “No, it’s not okay. I don’t know what happened between you two, but I can tell that it hurt you deeply.”
