Evelyn's POV
I stared at him in shock.
He met my gaze and added with a smile, "In return, I'll help you get back at your ex-husband and his mistress. I know you hate their betrayal."
“Are you drunk right now?” I couldn’t help but ask in disbelief, “You want me to be your Luna? We barely know each other!”
He wasn’t offended by my rudeness.
Instead, a glint of amusement flashed in his green eyes.
"I've never been more sober," he smiled. "I’m 28 years old, I need a wife, and Storm Fang Pack needs a Luna."
That made sense. But...
"Why me?" I asked, baffled. "You could choose any women in the world. Nobody would be stupid enough to reject you. And aren’t you going to wait for your mate?"
His deep eyes bore into mine, "Not everyone finds their mate. And I think you're better than anyone else."
His straightforwardness made me blush.
Elin howled with excitement. I had to shush her in my mind.
Asher continued, "You’re smart, beautiful, and have a sharp business mind. Come to Storm Fang Pack. You will be better off there."
This sounded more like a job offer to me. And it made a lot more sense this way. He chose me because I could manage the pack and was good at business.
I’d never believe that a playboy like Asher would have a crush on a divorce like me.
"Think about it."
Asher leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees, and stared at me without blinking:
"It’s going to be tough to fight Leah on your own. She’ll do anything to steal the Carnival City project. But with my help, you can stand against her."
I held my breath involuntarily.
I had never thought about taking Carnival City as mine until just now. In my mind, it was Blazewood Pack’s project. It didn’t belong to me.
But it WAS mine. I worked so hard to make this happen. Why let Leah take the credit?
“But I can’t just announce it as mine.” I said, breathing fast, “I’m just one person. I don’t have the manpower and money to do such a huge project alone…”
“Storm Fang Pack will fund this project. As of manpower—”
He gave me a meaningful smile.
“You come from a pack up north, Emerald Howl Pack, if I remember correctly. It must have enough men. So why not get your home pack on board with this project?
My heartrate quickened.
My brother Eason is the Gamma of Emerald Howl Pack. He didn’t want me to marry Tristan and we had a huge fight before I ran off with Tristan and we never spoke again.
Now that I was leaving Tristan, I wanted to go home.
Maybe if I brought back a huge project with me, I could even patch things with Eason.
Excitement bubbled in my chest. Asher’s suggestion was brilliant. It would not only help me get on my feet, but also get back on Leah.
“But how do you benefit from this?” I couldn’t help but ask Asher. “With Emerald Howl on board, you’ll have one more party splitting the profit.”
His lifted the corner of his mouth into a charming smile, “I’ll have you as my Luna, which is all that I want.”
My cheeks turned red.
“So is that a yes?” he pursued.
"…I need some time to consider."
He leaned back in his chair, his expression tinged with disappointment, "From the look on your face earlier, I thought you’d agree on the spot."
I flushed again.
I felt like he could see right through me.
"This is a big decision to make," I said, trying to stay calm. "Besides, before divorcing Tristan, I want to get my dowry back. That’s 2000 soldiers and 30 million. I won’t let Tristan and Leah keep it.”
He nodded, "Understandable. Then how about we shake on it first? To show you’re inclined to agree to my proposal."
I stood up.
After a brief hesitation, I took his hand.
Again. A jolt of electricity shot through my body, striking my very soul.
I instinctively let out a soft groan and tried to pull my hand back in panic.
But he tightened his grip, holding me firmly.
"What’s wrong?" he asked in a deep voice.
"…N—No, it’s nothing..."
His scent washed over me like a tide, making my legs weak. I had to use all my strength just to stay standing.
Elin was practically screaming in my mind, urging me to pounce on him, tear our clothes off, and press my hardened n*****s against his naked chest…
God! What’s wrong with me?!
I must have gone too long without s*x.
Thank the Moon Goddess, he finally let go of me the next moment.
"Then we’ve reached an agreement," his voice was as husky as mine. "When do you want to announce Emerald Howl Pack as the third partner?"
“At the party. Right after I pitch the project,” I said without hesitation.
A soft smile spread across his lips, “I can’t wait to see. Allow me to escort you back to the party then.”
He offered me his arm and I placed my arm on his.
Together, we returned to the banquet hall.
Many guests had arrived at this point. They all turned their gazes at us when Asher and I entered the hall.
I raised my chin and gazed back at those guests with a confident smile.
I knew that most of them had heard about my divorce and was here to laugh at my face. But sorry to disappoint them. I had the most powerful and handsome man by my side now. I was impeccable.
Tristan was glaring at us. Leah tried to get his attention back by tagging at his sleeve and calling his name, but he ignored her. His eyes were glued to me.
I saw jealousy on his face.
A sweet sense of revenge surged up in my chest.
