Chapter 005

NORA “The shares are really going up; bigger companies are now relying on us with their money!” I overheard my dad say as they sat at the dining table. “That’s pretty good!” I chimed in as all eyes fell on me. “Good morning, Dad!” I greeted. “Morning, my dear!” “Good morning mom!” “Morning, darling” “Emma!” “Good morning, sis!” She greeted. I grabbed a chair and sat down, serving myself immediately. “Where were you last night? Everyone was searching for you; where did you head to?” Emma questioned. I rolled my eyes inwardly. Must she bring up these matters? What a problematic girl! “I left with some of my Og’s” I still stuck to my formal lie. “And you didn’t bother picking up your calls; Dad was about to introduce you to everyone,” Emma said, making me feel bad for not being present. “I’m sorry, Dad, I should have stayed behind,” I apologized. “It’s okay, there’s always another day, which is today. Your mom and I will be attending a friend’s son’s wedding tonight, so you and your sister will go over to the Mr. Wilson party tonight,” my dad announced. “Another party?” Since when did my parents start accepting to show up at events like this? “That’s how we roll here, sisi,” Emma said. Gosh! Since when? “Don’t you attend parties in Italy? Then how do you keep on receiving those business awards?” My mom questioned. “I don’t attend; my P A. does it all for me,” I replied, sipping from my cup of tea. “Wow…what an introverted being,” Emma said as I threw a slice of bread at her. “So guys, my boyfriend will be coming over next weekend!” Emma flaunts her hair with a smile plastered on her face. “So, do you expect us to start dancing?” I questioned. “Come on, sis, don’t be so rude; show my man some respect—at least he deserves that,” Emma said with an annoying voice. What’s with her? How did I even sound rude? “And what do you mean by that?” “Anytime I speak about my boyfriend, you tend to act so rudely, like I’m at fault that no man is picking interest in you?” Emma scoffed. I paused on my food and stared at her with a mixed feeling. Ever since I arrived, she has been throwing words at me for not having any man. “Is there something obviously wrong with you? Why do you keep shading me because you have a man and I don’t? Is it now a crime to be single?” I ranted. Damn, I was pissed already. My sister keeps saying nonsense words that will actually get you provoked. “I didn’t say it’s a crime to not have one; I just want you to at least respect my man even if he isn’t our class level.” Emma stood up and walked upstairs. “Emma?” My parents called after her. I sighed whilst shaking my head. My sister just exchanged words with me over nothing. I can’t even find any rude remark here. “Nora?” “What did I say to her? Am I even aware that our level is higher than her boyfriend's level? I just want you both to do one thing for me and warn your daughter to not say anything about my relationship status ever again.” I stood up and also left the dining table. If she’s angry, then I’m angry too. I used the whole day to read books that I bought while traveling back and some time on business-related stuffs. A lot of people had been having network issues and stuff, which I tried resolving from here because it's the weekend and all bankers are out to relax, so I did it myself without disturbing anyone. “Mi lady, the car is ready!” A knock came in on my door with my dad’s driver’s voice. “Alright, I’m coming,” I glanced at myself one last time in the mirror before grabbing my phone and purse and heading out. I walked to the garage with the back passenger seat door opened for me. I got in and met Emma in already. She glanced at me, then looked the other direction. Oh my, oh my! What wrong thing did I say that she’s still angry about until now? The car drove into the road, and I decided not to say anything to her; maybe later she will come around. “How wicked are you?” I heard her hiss while mumbling some words to herself. “Meaning?” “You’re such a hard nut to crack; an apology from you would have been fine, but anyway I forgive you!” She said with a smile. Who’s supposed to be apologizing here? What a drama queen. The car came to a halt in front of a mansion. We got down, and damn, there were lots of cars around. “The Williams daughter!” Paparazzi burst out from nowhere, taking photos that weren’t relevant. I covered my face and walked past them, heading inside. There were people dancing and having fun, and I immediately located the person who made me be here. “Mr. Wilson!” I greeted him with a smile. “Williams daughters. I’m so glad you both are here!” He extended his hands for a handshake, which we both accepted. “I’m glad too!” Emma said. “Please enjoy yourselves, beautiful ladies,” Mr. Williams said. Emma grabbed my hands and led me to a corner as we both sat down, observing the party. “It’s a pity I have a man. Look at all of these bad looking boys?” Emma gushed as I observed all of them, and my eyes fell on a portrait of someone. Xavier? What’s he doing here? Is he stalking me or what?? He was dressed in corporate clothes. Black pants and a white button-sleeve shirt, which hugged his abs so smoothly. His hair was tied in a bun as always and the sleeves were rolled up. He was so perfect and handsome. I pray he comes back for me. We shouldn’t end it like that. “Are you even listening to me?” Emma tapped my shoulders, and I jolted back to reality. Oh man, I was fascinated by him again. “Do you like him?” She asked with a smirk. “Who?” I asked, eyeing her. “Mr. Danvers!” Emma said, pointing at Xavier. “You know him?” Has my sister hung out with him before. “He’s Dad's business partner, and he has a huge share in our company,” she answered, and I mouthed an “oh.” “And he’s also your rival's father.” I immediately sat upright the moment I heard that statement. “Rival’s father?” I glanced back at Xavier as our eyes met each other. He had a seductive smile on, but I wasn’t feeling him at this moment because a lady walked over to him and led him to the dancing floor. Who the hell is she? “You know Crystal, that girl who tried bullying you in school back then, but you told her you are fearless. Yeah, that’s her father; he returned two years ago. He’s handsome and young, right?” Emma kept blabbering, but my eyes didn’t leave Xavier and that woman. He’s a married man? He’s a father to my rival classmate in high school…. Crystal. But how come he looked so young, like someone in his early 30’s. “And that woman he is dancing with is his wife, Crystal’s mother” Emma added as anger consumed me. Did he just play with me?No, I can’t do this. How dare he hide the fact that he’s married and also a father away from home. These must be Crystal's plans, and I wouldn’t fall for it. I stood up and marched towards him; he must be kidding me for trying to toy with me. He’s a married man with a daughter, huh? I will tell him why his daughter couldn’t bully me and he also can’t mess with me.
