Training With Kase

723 Words
Marisol was pushing herself harder and harder. She couldn’t slack up now that he’d shown his face. And now that he had, she had an even hotter burning desire to make him suffer. Feeling her body was wound tight and she felt like a rubber band ready to pop someone hard, Marisol jumped when Kase appeared behind her.   “Need a sparring partner?” He asked kindly. But Marisol just aggressively barked, “Yeah, let’s go.” Kase looked at Marisol concerned and asked, “You okay?” Marisol held up her axe, “Never better. You?”   Kase waved a hand and a black sword appeared in his hand. It was curved up at the end, the metal heavy and solid as a handled engraved with ancient writing. “Eh,” And then he came forward striking. But Marisol blocked and they circled each other.   “Want to tell me why you’re so angry?” Kase questioned. Marisol’s answer was to slide on her knees, send a kick to his stomach and bring her blade to the back of his neck. But Kase blocked, deflected, and struck back harder.   Breathing heavily as they circled each other again, Marisol panted, “I met the man who killed my parents. They were trying to keep me safe from some blowhard thinking we were fated to be together.” Kase was surprised but then Marisol was in front of him with impressive skill.   Blades clanging loudly, Kase ducked a fierce swing at his head and held his blade at her stomach. But hers was at his thigh.   Grinning both backed up as Marisol asked Kase, “What’s your deal?” Kase c****d an eyebrow, “What do you mean?” Marisol shrugged as she looked at Kase closely, “You’ve been waking up early the last couple of mornings. Anxiousness. Spacing out when Brianna or someone is talking to you. Something is on your mind.”   Marisol kicked her foot out and he ducked out the way as he blocked a hit to his side. “It’s nothing,” He gritted pushing her back. Marisol laughed lightly, “Yeah you can’t lie to me, Kase. You’ve been biting your tongue about something and it’s eating you up.”   Feeling a churn in his gut, Kase stopped for a moment and so did she. “Is it that obvious?” Marisol grinned, “Yes. Because that pained look on your face whenever you’re around Brianna isn’t anything but a guilty conscience.”   Looking like he’d actually be sick, Marisol’s face was pensive as Kase admitted, “Timing is off. Like a lot off, she has so much going on. And she’s trying to stay ahead and make sure everyone is not only together but happy. It’s a lot of pressure and I don’t want to pile more on by telling her-.”   When he stopped like his tongue was now too heavy to speak, Marisol nodded in understanding, “Guys always think there is a perfect time and place and moment for s**t. But there isn’t, and as an immortal being Kase, I shouldn’t have to tell you this.”   Kase licked his lips as Marisol relaxed her stance, “She cares about you and you’re good for her. But the longer you keep it from her, the worse it’s going to be when it comes out. Right or wrong timing, you know she’d prefer you to just be honest with her.”   Knowing that, Kase agreed and attacked the completely relaxed Marisol. But he was surprised she easily deflected his hit and she dropped, her leg came out and kicked his legs from under him. Hitting the ground, he looked up as her blade came to his neck.   Marisol grinned at his surprised face, “Gotcha.” Kase laughed and she helped him up, “Good job kid.” Bowing like a princess, she giggled and left him shaking his head. She was getting more powerful, and he couldn’t wait to see her when she fully awakens.
