Marisol woke up the next morning to the smell of food and a soft knock. Sitting up, Marisol hummed, “Come in.” Brianna peeked her head in and said, “Morning, Marisol. We made breakfast if you’re hungry.” Marisol nodded and then looked at her daughter sucking on her pacifier peering up at her.
“I should probably feed her first.” And when she went for her daughter, Brianna offered, “I could feed her if you wanted to take a shower or something.” Shocked by the offer, Marisol glanced over at Brianna, “Oh I couldn’t ask you-.” Brianna waved that off, “You didn’t I’m offering.”
Marisol didn’t think she had any more formula. But when she checked her baby bag, she was surprised to find she did have an unopened can. “Wow, I thought I had to breastfeed her, turns out I had a can. So yeah if you don’t mind I’d love to take a shower.”
Brianna easily picked Aurora up and fixed her a bottle and then warmed it up with her hand. Marisol shook her head amazed as Aurora looked up at Brianna curiously. Smacking her face gently, Aurora squinted and seemed to deduce she liked Brianna. And soon she was babbling away at her, making Brianna giggle at her, “You are just so pretty!” And their parting chatter made Marisol okay with leaving them alone.
Taking a quick shower, Marisol looked around at the bathroom amused at the atmosphere. She definitely felt like she was in Sabrina the Teenage Witch’s house right now. And it was a peculiar feeling. The bathroom was clean and pristine, and while they had magic, they seemed to leave some things as is. Like the vines going through the cracks.
The almost enchanting bathroom had loads of different plants and candles around. Bath bombs and lotions all specially made.
And while weird and not something she is used to, she felt completely safe and relaxed as the hot water pelted her. Even more so when she could seemingly feel how happy her daughter was right now, Brianna was funny and a natural with her. Grinning as she finished showering, Marisol came out and found a huge man coming out of the room they were in last night.
He was a little older, and other than being completely sexy, he was covered in scars. And even weirder? He now had chains wrapped around his torso and biceps. With his long dreads and creepy hat, the ruby eyes in the skull were nothing compared to the pair underneath the brim.
Kase observed the shell-shocked little witch and beamed, “Buenos Dias. (*Good morning.)” Marisol grinned a little surprised, “Um…Buenos Dias…w-who are you?” Kase held out his hand, “Kase, Loa of the Broken. Wanna give me your soul?” Marisol’s eyebrows shot to her hairline as she dropped his hand, “Ugh, no?”
Kase shrugged casually like he'd expected it, “Had to ask. See ya around kiddo.” And then he walked away completely undisturbed by the conversation. Marisol scoffed a little and she ran a hand through her hair before turning to head back to her daughter.
But she found Brianna was coming already. Having fed the cute little bean, the baby was now playing with a little ball of light.
Looking so entertained, the ball was dancing in front of Aurora’s eyes. It would eventually let her catch it and when she did it’d glow a different color. Causing Aurora, immense happiness, which had her sweet laugh echoing in the hall.
Grinning down at her, Brianna hummed, “All fed and changed, enjoy your shower?” Marisol nodded and Brianna nodded to the living room, “Come on then.” And Marisol followed her inside as Brianna went to the table. Jeremy was reading a paper and Tamia looked sick to her stomach as she stared too, which made everything good stop.
“What’s wrong?” Marisol asked naturally concerned after Tamia had been so welcoming to her. She looked a little nervous to admit to it, but Brianna nodded assuring her it was okay, “We can trust her.” So, Jeremy threw down the morning paper as Tamia explained, “Almost a month ago I killed a drug dealing scum bag. His nic name was Heavy and he had bought me from my foster father.”
Seeing the picture of the man, real name James Eli, she breathed out. He was on the front page, and Marisol skimmed how there were suspects being looked into but so far, no evidence of leads.
“Dios Mio,” she whispered softly, and Tamia nodded afraid, “God if they start digging it’s going to come back that my foster father sold me to him. And then I’m going to jail for murder.” Brianna frowned in protest of that thought, “Okay for starters I am a mambo, a voodoo practitioner, I would NEVER let that happen.”
Grabbing his little sister’s hand, Jeremy assured Tamia, “WE would never let that happen.” Tamia’s eyes watered a little, and he smiled at her before continuing on, “Plus you were defending yourself. Self-defense vs. Cold-blooded murderer with a rap sheet. Even if this did come back to you, no one would dare try to prosecute you. There would be lawyers begging to represent you with all that is happening in the news right now.”
Tamia hoped so because, from the way things were looking, she might be sharing a cell with Big Bertha in Rikers.
Marisol enjoying her waffle asked, “So what are you guys going to do?” Jeremy breathed out as he looked at his sister thinking, “Easy, Jeremy and Tamia are going down to the police station to find out what they know.” Brianna said eyes far away.
Jeremy and Tamia were shocked but Brianna calmed them down, “Don’t worry, I have a glamour spell.” Nodding both went to get ready as Marisol watched her gently say, “And I was hoping me and you could talk a little more. Try and see if we could figure out your power.”
Blowing out a breath, Marisol was mildly curious about this supposed power. She couldn’t even believe there was one. But she did have to admit if there was any magic, luck, or hoodoo voodoo she could do she needed to know. She wasn’t too prideful to admit, she could use all the help she could get right now.
Marisol nodded slowly biting the bullet, “I’m willing to try.” Brianna grinned eagerly holding up her hand, her staff flying to her making Marisol’s jaw drop, “Excellent! Let’s get started.”
