Chapter 12

Few hours before

~ Princess Mylie’s PoV

“Please dear spirit, all I intend to do is to go to the human world and first of all get my people back, away from human hands, who knows what they are doing to them up there, so I need your help, I only need to borrow the ancient pearl so I can turn human as well and move well on land, our fins are useless up there after all” I said in a rush as I felt the second c***k in the spell, three more cracks and there would be trouble.

The spirit seemed to think on it a bit, “Do you only need to turn human to get your people? Because a whole of other things can achieve that, take for instance the whole spell I use for my transformations here, that could be of use wouldn’t it?” the spirit asked.

I was now getting impatient and with good cause, the spell holding us together to be able to survive in this icy region is failing.

“Dear spirit, if I only bring my people back, won’t that be a futile effort? Since all the humans would do is to just come back and get them and even more people” I said to it.

“Why I need the pearl is also for its ancient magic which can conquer the dark sorcery of the humans, so that I’ll stop them one and for all, and they won’t be able to bother my kingdom anymore” I said again.

The third c***k came, uh oh, and this here spirit is having a hard time getting convinced.

“Rightly said” it finally said, “But you have to promise one thing, and that is you’ll return it here once you’re done using it, this ancient magic is so great and it has to be preserved, well preserved even so I can’t have anything happening to it, do you promise to return it?” the spirit asked.

“Yes, oh yes I promise to return it, as soon as I’m done using it” I said in a rush, I could feel the fourth c***k coming up ever so slowly.

My oh my this spirit is too slow, I thought to myself as I started getting scared that it won’t give them before the fifth c***k which would spoil things a lot, not even mentioning the fact that it might cost them their lives.

The spirit had closed it eyes and seemed to be meditating, probably calling forth the pearl, or sleeping? I really hope not, it had better be calling it forth.

The fourth c***k had happened, now they had mere seconds before they froze to death should they not have the pearl by then.

Selena was biting her fingers hard and she was as well clutching my dress very tightly, as the fifth c***k started happening.

Just then the spirit vanished, I couldn’t believe my eyes, it was all over, I couldn’t even reply as Selena asked “Where did it go?” in a shrill, super scared voice.

The last c***k started and the icy cold started seeping in, there was no point running away, we couldn’t swim fast enough to get to the other warm point before the whole spell crumbled which most definitely meant us freezing to death.

I had given up but then right at the last moment a bright light shone right where the spirit had been and in the center of the light was the pearl.

“Take it” A voice sounded from nowhere but I needed no encouragement, I had stretched my hand in to grab the pearl and then I uttered just one word in my mind.

‘Heat'

Selena who had been holding tight to me breathed a breath of relief as the warmth from the magic of the pearl spread to our entire body.

Then some other words followed immediately “Speed, home, surface” and before I knew it we were at the beach where I had seen my human crush, the moon shone brightly up in the sky.

All of a sudden, I felt lightheaded and woozy, “Oh Selena, I feel faint” I said to my best friend who was still in a state of disbelief as she just stared about.

“It works” Selena said finally getting herself right, “It really works, wow, you still have it princess?” she asked and I showed it to her in the palm of my hands.

“The power you used suddenly must be the one making you feel that way” Selena said as she touched my hand holding the pearl gingerly, as if it was hot and might burn her if she held on for too long.

“Yeah seems so” I replied her, I as well already realized it had to be from using the pearl, which meant “I can’t use its magic so much, lest it leaves me weakened” I said aloud to finish my thoughts.

Selena nodded her consent, then she brought out the necklace we had made for it, we had known its size so all we made for the center piece was a wire casing.

I extended the casing and placed it inside then I tightened the wires around it before uttering the command for it to seal up.

The whole necklace bounded as one and looked as if it was a well crafted necklace rather than the crudely made one it had been.

We both stared at it for a while, we were in awe, amazed at the powers it wielded, amazed the plan had worked to get the pearl itself as well, although there was still about a thousand jaw fishes we still owed favors as our part of the lightshow deal, I still wonder how Selena had been able to get so many of them.

“Well? Go on, c’mon try it and let see if it’ll work” Selena said although I’m pretty sure she had no doubt same as I that it would work, I was just really nervous now that I had all I needed to make my wish come true.

“Ok, here goes” I said as I placed the necklace around my neck and focused on the word human, then I swam slowly towards the beach.

Before I reached, I started having trouble swimming properly so I glanced back and saw that my fins were separated.

Right before my eyes they kept changing till I had two legs and feet, I stood up in the water as I had almost gotten to the beach and glanced back at Selena.

She did a flip in the water where she was and that flip had actually mirrored the one my mind was making out of pure happiness.

I moved, a bit wobbly at first, then slowly I got my steps more firmer, I remembered promising myself not to fall like they do, so I took my first steps as a human slowly.

When I got to the beach, I ran about in glee, quickly achieving my set goals; walking, running and not falling as a human, should in case I wake up and it’s all a dream.

But I was still running to and fro and hadn’t woken up yet so I knew it was pretty real, there was nothing I could compare how joyous I felt to.

I saw Selena waving frantically and at first I thought she was as well expressing her happiness, then I noticed she was instead trying to warn me of some approaching strangers.

They were about three and were all dressed the same and held the light trapping tubes as they came towards where I was, they hadn’t seen me yet though, so I waved goodbye to Selena which she returned and then I took off.

I headed in one direction, the one I had seen my human crush heading at the times I saw him, especially that day with the vehicle thing.

I ran onto a place where only those vehicles could be seen moving about here and there, I saw a few humans moving about, uh oh, I was stark naked.

Some where coming closer, Dammit, I thought to myself and ran across, ‘What was I thinking, how could I just come into this large world and expect to just find someone, someone who I didn’t know his name or where he could possibly be”

These were my thoughts when one of the vehicles slammed into me and sent me sprawling off in one direction.

At first I felt nothing then slowly the pain started to come but almost as soon as they came, relief also followed, I felt the pearl working even as I laid motionless on the floor.

Someone was beside me, touching me, trying to wake me? Or trying to know if I’m dead.

My eyes flew open at that point and right at that moment I felt I must have died and I’m already in heaven because right before me, is my prince charming, my one and forever human crush.
