Emma was certain this time would be no different. She wanted them to see her suffering. She wanted them to feel guilty. And more than anything else, she wanted that guilt to be redirected toward Ivy. So she waited. One minute passed.Then five. Then ten. The room remained exactly as it was. Only the maids stayed by her bedside, replacing the damp cloth on her forehead and speaking in hushed voices, while the people Emma had been waiting for never appeared. The longer she waited, the deeper her dissatisfaction grew. How could they not come? She was lying here with a fever, covered in wounds, yet not one of them had rushed to see her. A lump formed in her throat. Her flushed cheeks puffed slightly as she bit down on her lower lip, trying to suppress the overwhelming sense of grievance
