CHAPTER 25

"Ivy?" Gigi's calm voice drifted through the speaker. "Hey Gigi." Ivy leaned closer to the phone. "Are we still meeting today?" There was a small pause. Ivy's finger hovered above the red button, ready to hang up if necessary. "Of course, unless you're busy?" Relief flushed across her features. She smiled at the phone and said, "Alright. I'll meet you around ten?" "I'll send you the location. See you then." "See you then." Ivy hung up, lowered the phone and looked at them. "I told you." Luna Doris finally relented. "Then go get ready quickly. Make sure you take some cash with you. Ask Luke if you need more." Ivy nodded upfront but has no intention of doing so. She didn't want their money and didn't want to ask Luke for it. As for where she'd get the money? She'd find a way when the time comes. Ivy showered and changed into a pair of dark jeans and a full sleeve blue shirt. It hid all her visible scars on her arms. She then spent a long time concealing some dark sports under her eyes. Three years of not using makeup left her rusty, but she managed to do a decent job in the end. The cafe Gigi had chosen wasn't far. A short ride would have gotten her there within ten minutes. Since Ivy didn't have money for a cab, she walked instead. It took a bit longer than usual, courtesy of her old ankle injury, but she still reached on time. She arrived at the cafe and immediately spotted Gigi near the window seat. Ivy started apologising the moment she sat down. "I'm sorry for changing plans last minute. I couldn't explain properly over the phone." Gigi waved it off with a small smile and slid the menu towards her. "It's alright. Order something first. You look tired." Ivy ended up choosing a lemonade and Gigi got herself a fruit tea. Neither said much until their drinks arrived. The cold glass felt soothing against her palm and helped regulate her fatigue a little. "Are you feeling better?" Gigi asked. "A little." Ivy stirred her drink grimly. "It's strange not having grandma around. I spent three years away from her, but somehow it never felt like we were truly seperated. I always through there would be more time." Gigi's expression softened. "I get it. This pain doesn't disappear, but eventually it becomes easier to carry." "I hope so." Silence settled comfortably between the two. Ivy could easily tune out the voices around them. That was the effect Gigi brought to her life during highschool. It's easier to forget everything else with her around. But they were not here for that silence. Ivy rubbed her forehead and sighed, "Actually, I should apologise again. I was being forced to spend time with people I didn't want to see and needed an excuse to escape. You're the only person I could think of." Ivy was ready to face her judgement. It was an outrageous reason and anyone would be upset if they had to leave their work just because their acquaintance wanted to bail out of a situation. But instead of being dissatisfied, Gigi's smile widened into an easy and genuine arc. "I'm glad you thought of me." However, that smile slowly faded and she asked, "Was it Emma?" Ivy didn't hesitate, "Hm. I don't like her." The blunt answer slipped out so naturally that she didn't think twice about it. Judging by Gigi's startled expression, most people probably weren't that honest. Before Ivy could correct herself, Gigi leaned forward slightly and lowered her voice. "I know whatever is happening between you and Emma is none of my business, but yesterday I overheard something." The change of tone caught Ivy's attention. She set down her glass and observed Gigi carefully. "What did you hear?" Gigi looked uncomfortable. For a minute Ivy was afraid she wouldn't hesitate and refuse to say it, but she clearly thought too much. Gigi licked her lips and said, "I wasn't trying to listen. I just happened to hear Emma and Juan talking." Those two names together were never a good sign for Ivy. Her stomach churned with unease. "They were talking about your grandma." She continued. Ivy's heart lurched at the mention of her grandma. Her reaction made Gigi more nervous. She hesitated even more but the sharp gaze directed at her didn't give her a choice anymore. Gigi shifted uneasily in her seat, clearly regretting being the bearer of bad news. "Emma was saying how she was forced to spend more time with Luna Norma. It was Alpha Victor who kept pushing her." Ivy's eyebrows furrowed slightly. That wasn't news to her. Grandma never liked Emma to begin with, so spending time together was probably torture for both of them. If not for Alpha Victor pushing it, Emma wouldn't want to be anywhere around Grandma. "What happened after that?" She asked. Gigi looked around cautiously, lowered her voice further and said, "Apparently, all grandma talked about was you. That made her very uncomfortable. Then she decided to spend all her time trying to show her your true face." "My true face?" Ivy scoffed. That's rich coming from a two faced b*itch. "What did she do?" Gigi reached into her bag and pulled out her phone, turning it over several times in her hand before finally meeting her eyes. "I recorded part of it." Ivy's gaze immediately dropped to the phone. "I wasn't trying to eavesdrop." Gigi hurried to explain. "The music was loud and I wasn't even that close to them. I just happened to hear what they were saying. At first I thought it was gossip, but then they started talking about your grandma and.." she hesitated. "..I thought you deserved to know." "Let me hear it." Ivy extended her hand. Gigi handed over the phone like a hot potato. The moment Ivy pressed play, the sound of loud music filled her ears. Overlapped voices made the sound chaotic, but the voices of Juan and Emma were easily understandable.
