73 - An Unexpected Ally

Savannah     I tried shimmying further into the ventilation system, but it got too narrow for me to get more than a few inches.  Hours must have passed by while I hid in that tiny vent, then I heard it.  The sound of a latch squeaking followed by the sound of heavy footsteps coming into the room.     My body trembled with fear, while listening to the despicable voice of Vance, as he angrily bellowed, “Which one of you miserable mutts let my b***h get out?”     “Nobody has come in or out!  I made sure of it!” a raspy voice responded.     The walls rattled from the growl that left Vance, then he grumbled, “Leave!”  I could hear the sound of retreating footsteps, then Vance smugly chanted, “Come out little one.  Come to your new mate.  Come out little one.  So we can make the bed shake.”
