I take Maria's hand and leave the party. I don't feel bad for myself, because it's the least I deserve, but I do feel bad for my girl. It's what I feared the most, and now it's happened. Everyone in the families rejects us. I turn to look at her in the passenger seat and she's crying silently. I can only see the tears streaming down her face.
