I was having a very pleasant afternoon in Annie's company when I received a call from the hospital urgently requesting my presence. Annie just looked at me understandingly.
"Annie, I'm so sorry. The hospital just called and it seems urgent. I have to go," I informed her, feeling a pang of guilt for interrupting our time together. She smiled at me and patted my arm.
"It's okay, duty calls. There will be more time for you to spend with Little Angel," she comforted me, but inside I felt I should stay. I approached her and kissed her forehead.
