“You can’t see him again,” I slowly tell her, knowing how much it will hurt her.
She suddenly looks angry. “You can’t ask that of me.”
“He is trying to kill me,” I remind her.
She shakes her head quickly. “No, he’s not. I’m telling you, there’s some kind of misunderstanding.”
I look behind her at Michael, who stands silently by the edge of the bubble. “What did you find?”
He looks at Benjamin, who nods before answering me. “I did not see them but heard them speak of hostages. I do believe one they were speaking of was Alex.”
I see Benjamin tense, no doubt upset by this. They had their issues, but Alex was his friend for many years.
“Someone must be framing him,” Lily tells me, still in denial. “You can’t make me choose between my children like this.”
