“She’s disappeared,” I finally admit to Peter.
“What happened?”
I sigh. “I took her to dinner. We talked and ate. I walked her to her car. She kissed me. We said goodnight, and I’ve not seen her since. I’ve gone to the coffee shop where she works, but she hasn’t been there for a week. I’m back to staking out her apartment. There are lights on, but no one has come in or out.”
“Why would you kiss her?” he asks, and I can hear how angry he is.
“She kissed me,” I correct him. “But I need to get close to the girl, and that seems the easiest way.”
