Sarah couldn't move or speak for several minutes. What was he saying? How can that be possible? Bruce was still a teenager in high school. How could he have a daughter? She needed answers, but she didn't expect him to explain everything right away because Sadie's condition shook him up.
She put her hand on his chest. "Bruce, please don't cry. She'll be okay. I'm sure of it," she held back tears. Seeing him cry was making her want to cry too. She never wants to see him like this again!
She saw her friends in her peripheral vision. No one was speaking as they were shocked except for James. He had known all along.
She made him sit in the chair and wiped his tears. He didn't stop her, but he couldn't look her in the eyes after revealing his secret as if he was ashamed of himself.
